  • Doll / by Nichelle A Ruffin / — / I remember walking down the aisle of a huge toy store, looking for that special doll to call my own. One, who wanted a very special girl to take her home. - I looked high and low for her and didn’t stop until I became satisfied with my search.“Suddenly, my angel, my friend, my confidante, oh “yes”, my joy;I found the doll that would become much more than a toy.She was beautifully dressed in a snow white bonnet and a matching flowing white gown.“I want her Mommy,” was all I could say.Mommy paused and asked, “Is that all you would like for Christmas Day?” / - Mom and I both knew this was all we could afford.Yet, she aimed to please me, for I was the “doll” that she adored. / - Mom never wrapped my new found friend.Instead, she placed her into my arms like a precious gem.I cradled her and held her tight. From that day forward she was never out of my sight. Her name was “Curlie”, a name I didn’t need to ponder; For Curlie was the name of my favorite “Globe Trotter”.He was bald, she was bald; they had a lot in common. He made the world laugh, she made my heart sing.Isn’t that quite ironic? - As I grew older, Curlie became more of a decoration piece upon my bed. She was always well dressed before I left for school, and her beautiful white bonnet placed carefully on her head.Mom would ask me, “What about all of your other dolls?”I just shrugged my shoulders, not thinking twice because Curlie was ranked highest of them all!She never shared a space amongst my other clutter; She was my pride and joy, definitely like no other. / - Where is Curlie now? You may ask. She’s come to life and that’s a fact. She is still bringing joy to the hearts of many. Her name has changed and she spends my every penny.“Little Me”, is what I call her.“Big girl”, is what she prefers. - / No more constant hugs or kisses. Now it’s, “Mom, do I have to do the dishes?” - You see, when I grew up and had a baby of my own.Curlie was pushed aside and some how lost in the storm. My heart feels sad from time to time, for I do not know of her fate.I do thank God though, for the doll I have now, who fills the space of yesterday. To my darling daughter

  • My Sweet and never forgotten, always loved furry companion whom passed away to early at just 6 months old.

  • This was a”photo shoot” as they like to call it….between my daughter and her best friend. There were many happy silly moments between them as we were doing this and my oldest daughter kaila had her shots at this too….for a school photography project but with a much, much better camera, seems a little strange but she has a great camera and me …....her mom does not !!!! lol I chose to add this particular image, not because of It’s clarity or such but rather because their beauty and their kindred spirits were captured in a little tiny moment….as I saw it, however I am Biased and I’m sure there is room for improvement so if you have suggestions please bmail me. I recently acquired photo shop but I only know how to use image size and the burn tool lol . I think black and white photographs are difficult especially when working with two different skin tones so any suggestions are welcome in a bmail :) Thank you RB people :)

  • Yet another drawing from my book “Snow Man is my Friend.” If I keep posting these, eventually I’ll have put them all up, leaving no reason whatsoever for anyone to actually buy the book. I’m a marketing genius.

  • while i went for a little walk at a local market in Leh i spotted this little one..Leh., ladakh, india

  • Black Marker and Felt Pen Concept: I did this portrait of Mel the Panda, I think he’s less exposed as compared to Ophelia the Owl and Phoebe the Bunny :D Mel is the one whom we can count on when we need a listening ear and when we can turn to for advice when we feel helpless and alone. I chose Mel to be a panda because like the pandas, he’s an endangered animal….not too many in this world :D He always dresses the same, black and white with polka dotted ribbon(unlike the other 2 :D), gives the rest the impression that he’s of a predictable and stable temperament. I decided to put on a special ribbon for him today, hope you like this little tweak :D / /

  • I wanted to show the original of this photo too, because i love the pink sari, rajahstan, India

  • Wauw thats pure power I thought when i saw her..like a warrior. f a n t a s t i c..I love it! Bishnoi, Rajahstan, India

  • This is the VERY LAST illustration from “Snow Man is My Friend” and, as luck would have it, it’s also the very last illustration in the book. Finally…I’ve posted them all…a sense of accomplishment runs through me like a winding stream at the base of a soft grassy hill – warm, and pleasant, and fulfilling. Then a meteor smashes into it or something, burning everything, and destroying life for miles upon miles in every direction, as I realize that I’ve got a lot a lot of other work to do. Aint’ it always the case? I actually don’t hate this illustration. It comes alongside one of the happier endings to something that I’ve ever written. Hopefully everyone who looked at this series liked it. I appreciated all of your comments greatly.

  • Always happy to be with us, doesn’t care about our look or our grooming, always ready for fun, has a loyal, trusting and affectionate nature. What more could we ask of a close friend, besides maybe good conversation? Sometimes just hanging together in silence is just as great. This is our dog Lucky. My sister got her from the shelter last year when she was sick with kennel cough (the dog, of course!). After nursing her back to health, she couldn’t consider sending her back to the shelter, so she convinced us to adopt her. She has been with us for close to a year now. During the first 7-8 months, she was quite insecure and has suffered from separation anxiety but this problem seems to be resolved now. She has finally settled down making her life into our home, and her home into our lives. • It’s not often a chickadee will sit still and pose for the camera, but this one did for a moment and only a moment. He had better things to do and more exciting places to go. Thanks, little chickadee, for your time and cooperation.

  • With this image, I took a picture of my baby’s teddy bear and cut it out and placed it on a clean canvas. I darkened the background, smoothed the edges on the bear. I added plants and touched it up with paper damage (photoshop brushes). I altered the colors, adjusted the curves, and placed it in filter forge to give it the old photo look. Makes a great card! /

  • This is my black persian, Persia. I rescued her from a high-kill shelter of November of 2008. GOOD THING! She is a breathtakinly beautiful creature that has the friendliest nature. She is a bit hard to photograph as she is very active but I did manage to get this fantastic photo of her. In my editing of this photo I basically opened it up in Bridge in Photoshop and enhanced and darkened the black ( fur). I then proceeded to make a copy of the image and softened the background. A little bit of highlighting on her eyes and this is the final, finished product. This photograph is October in my Persian Cats and Kittens Calendar

  • September 29th was a black day on the bubble for a lot of people. On that day, the voice of truth and reason failed on RB and was banished irrevocably. Helen Bascom had her account deleted without opportunity to defend or explain. To those who don’t know her, Helen is one of the longest standing members of this site, an amazing artist and writer and a passionate lobbyist for change for the better in this world. I have never met a single human being with such grit and determination, such passion, such COMPASSION, and such integrity…... She was the voice of reason and conscience and constantly spoke out to address issues that were unfair and injust in not only her country but across the planet. Sure she was outspoken, determined, ballsy, and flew in the face of convention when she felt “convention” was unacceptable. But she never missed an opportunity to speak out, stand up, or defend the underdog or those who had been treated unfairly. For this, Helen was very controversial, but love her or dislike her, you had to admit, her passion and energy were overwhelming and admirable and she always fought unwaveringly for what she believed in. I use the past tense “was” here because on redbubble, it appears that the subject of Helen is past. However Helen WAS all these things and Helen still IS ! And I intend to keep the spirit of what Helen stood for on RB alive. On top of these things, she is a fine human being, and my friend. I respect and admire her. And if I do nothing else here, I will speak out about this in her defence, while she is unable to. My sense of fairplay dictates that if I don’t delete my account at Redbubble then I must stay here and continue the fight FOR HER. This T Shirt is one way I can protest about Helen’s treatment here on the bubble and show all those who take pleasure in her departure, that those of us who can see past their petty egos and opinions outnumber them by far, and we will continue to fight for the truth and focus on what really matters.
