First Tree was Featured in Lifestyles Magazine as part of an article about the Artists of the West coffee table book I am also honored to announce my painting First Tree was a part of the Rialto Towers two week art exhibit in Melbourne, Australia in of July 2007 Acrylic and pastel on illustration paper. (1995) This is truly the first tree I ever painted, the need to paint and create was something brewing so strongly inside I had to do something about it. Yet my resources were very limited, I grabbed the only paint I had any access to, a can of my father’s black spray paint, I sprayed it into the lid of the can and used the only paintbrush I owned a cheep nylon brush from a water color kit and created. I then finished my work with the only two pastels I owned brown and black. / Necessity is the mother of invention, or maybe it’s that there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry cat lovers) At any rate I grew up in a home with very few luxuries but I did have a passion to create, always, I had to feed the creativity. So this is a very special piece to me and I hope to you as well. Down through the dark trees, you came and saved me... Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower) with a dark twist. This was the first of my Dark Dreams flower series, most of which I have pulled from redbubble. It was also one of my first images here. Obviously it was photoshoped. I get a lot of questions about why there are scratches on it, it was to give it an old aged look. The texture would make it a great canidate for a canvas print… hint hint ;) This is the original: / I believe this is the largest image in my portfolio, and that is because it was taken with my old 35 mm SLR, then scanned in (I have a really good scanner that scans really big) If you are seeing this image in a group for the first time, that is because I just realized it wasn’t in any groups! I must have cleared it out to make room for newer stuff. This peice was my very first one chosen on the Featured Art page and was featured in Ebony and Ivory group. Hand drawn A2 image on cartridge paper with a G-Tec C4 0.4 pen probably took about a year to do, but I don’t pay attention to the time or the drawing until it is nearly complete.
