This was another photo I shot of a baby zebra at the African Animal Preserve in Florida, this little guy was so cool to watch!!! He was still nursing on his mama but he was a hoot to watch!!! He was trying to copy his mother by trying to figure out what grazing was all about. LOL And in this shot, he was smelling along the grasses and nibbling when he came upon something that he didn’t like. He just curled his lips up and raised his head… and he did this over and over again!! You can tell too by this shot he was starting to get his black stripes around and under his eyes. But his coat was still light brown and white in color and he was still a bit fuzzy. What a beautiful baby he was!! :-))

Because of its strength and determination to overcome obstacles, it stands for courage and the ability to attain high goals. / These koi were swimming in the pond around the Bok Carillon Tower in Lake Wales, FL. / /

This was a raptor/bird of prey I had the privilege of photographing at the Rehabilitation facility in Jupiter Florida. It’s called the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. I see these birds fly over my house all the time. They are very common in Florida and are very beautiful to watch while they are flying. They have a distinct fork tail and are black and white in color. / The Swallow-tailed Kite has a body length of 19 – 26 inches, a 4-foot wingspan. Swallow-tailed Kites are among the most adept and acrobatic fliers of all raptors. These kites live in tropical and subtropical forests with swamps, marshes, and other wet areas. Swallow-tailed Kites are found in the southeast United States and southward through Central America and tropical South America. Swallow-tailed Kites build twig nests at the top of tall trees. Many pairs may nest close together. Both males and females share all the duties of rearing the young. The female lays 1 – 3 eggs that are incubated for 28 – 31 days. The young kites fledge from 5 1/2 – 7 weeks after hatching. / I’ve cropped the original photograph and have applied a very subtle Orton Effect to this image. /

The Florida banded watersnake can be found in nearly all freshwater habitats, preferring the shallow waters of swamps, marshes, ponds, lakes, streams, and rivers. / When threatened, this non-venomous snake defends itself by biting and smearing its tormentor with a foul smelling musk. Active mainly at night, but may be found during the day sunning on banks or on vegetation hanging over the water. Feeds on live or dead fish, frogs, and aquatic invertebrates. The Florida banded watersnake bears live young. Mating occurs mid-winter to spring and litters of 20-30 young are born in late spring through summer. On Sanibel Island, Florida, there was a darling little shop called She Sells Seashells by the Seashore; this image looks like something that might be sold there. The lightning whelk I photographed is the first shell I found on the island on the first morning my husband and I hit the beach to look for treasures.
