  • pencil on paper (unknown type) drawing / Image size: 7.5” wide x 10 3/4” high / (Unfortunately, the scan I have for it here is not the greatest. It was framed without knowing this. It looks more grainy here than in real life. It’s very smooth and cleaner.) When my sister and I were young, we used to play a little game where one of us would cover our mouth and nose with something and the other would have to guess if we were smiling or frowning or ??? That’s what this is about. / And I felt like drawing a fan. (Why – I’ve no idea! I practically tore my hair out!) I stole the fan from this drawing to hide behind in one of my avatars: / The framed original is between exhibitions and is currently hanging in my stairwell. It’s archival matted and protected and is available for sale.

  • Spontaneous (gotcha) photograph of ‘Jewels’, who is oft-times seriously camera shy. ~ Stating the obvious, Photograph has been post-processed

  • “The Plea” is the latest in the series “Significant Faces”...I have seen her face, her expression, in many woman, but her lips were in a picture I saw last year in a fashion magazine at a friends house… those rich parted lips remained embedded in my memory….they seemed the lips of a supplicant….I should have known that I would paint those lips some day… / There are many poems titled The Plea…pleas for love. pleas to stop war, pleas to God for mercy…I decided not to include one this time…I will let you decide what her plea is all about... Acrylic and Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico Not Paper FEATURED IN THE FOLLOWING GROUPS / WATERMEDIA PAINTINGS / LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS / Le Maquillage / The Queen / The Masquerade / The Cameo

  • photographic/digital 2009 the simplicity in life…the uncomplicated parts…are often the ones you want to go back to…again and again

  • “The Party” or the party goer..either way her eyes speak volumes as all the other in the series do…the party goes on…is it life…the chatter, unrhymed, no listeners, mistrust? / “You cannot read me like an open book, I’m more myself than you will ever look”, the poem states…and later “Will no one listen to my song, i shan’t be with you very long”...a lot to think about... Gouache and WAtercolour on Arches Not Paper Unrhymed, unrhythmical, the chatter goes: / Yet no one hears his own remarks as prose. / Beneath each topic tunelessly discussed / The ground-bass is reciprocal mistrust. / The names in fashion shuttling to and fro / Yield, when deciphered, messages of woe. / You cannot read me like an open book. / I’m more myself than you will ever look. / Will no one listen to my little song? / Perhaps I shan’t be with you very long. / A howl for recognition, shrill with fear, / Shakes the jam-packed apartment, but each ear / Is listening to its hearing, so none hear...Auden / The Beauty / The Star / The Night / The Disguise / The Temptation / The Quiet / The Plea / Le Maquillage / The Queen / The Masquerade / The Cameo

  • We see you as we see a face / That trembles in a forest place / Upon the mirror of a pool / Forever quiet, clear and cool; / And in the wayward glass, appears / To hover between smiles and tears, / Elfin and human, airy and true, / And backed by the reflected blue...Katharine by / R.L.Stevenson When this painting was finished, I could not help but think of Stevenson’s “Katharine” and her “elfin” face…this delicate “quiet and cool” beauty seems to “mirror” his “trembling face, hovering between smiles and tears”.. Watercolour on Arches Not Paper / Sylvia / The Riddle / Illusion / The Wish / Virtue / The Party / The Beauty / The Star / The Night / The Temptation / The Quiet / The Plea / Le Maquillage

  • Self…I was playing around with some different lighting scenarios…

  • Composite of two images, textured background with ink drawing overlayed. Another digital play/experiment.

  • Self-portrait Beginning to See the Light, Velvet Underground - “Well I’m beginning to see the light / Well I’m beginning to see the light / Some people work very hard / but still they never get it right Well I’m beginning to see the light / Wine in the morning and some / breakfast at night / Well I’m beginning to see the light Here we go again / playing the fool again / Here we go again / acting hard again / Well I’m beginning to see the light / Now I’m beginning to see the light I wore my teeth in my hands / So I could mess the hair of the night / Well I’m beginning to see the light / Hey I’m beginning to see the light I met myself in a dream / And I just wanna tell you - / everything was alright / I’m beginning to see the light Here comes two of you / which one will you chose? / One is black, one is blue / Don’t know just what to do Well I’m beginning to see the light / Well I’m beginning to see the light / Now I’m beginning to see the light Some people work very hard / But still they never get it right / Well I’m beginning to see the light There are problems in these times / Ah, but none of them are mine / Baby, I’m beginning to see the light Here we go again / I thought that you were my friend / Here we go again / I thought that you were my friend How does it feel to be loved? / How does it feel to be loved?”

  • Self-Portrait / ~ Once again, i must insist you all listen to (and maybe watch) this – Amelia – I Am Waiting For My Man, as the next 7 pieces were done while this was playing incessantly. The music is amazing, and the dance piece is the from the most beautiful Modern Ballet movie i’ve ever seen. So inspiring. / Perhaps if you listen you’ll recognize the lyrics… This is a series of photos i’m doing to prepare myself for my first Modern Ballet class in…well, since my accident. / Something about this music/dance piece just does something to me…

  • I’m glad I have these few inks still out…I have been using them a lot, and will have to buy more soon….I love the combination of sepia and black….. / “The Beach” appears very mysterious in these colours and I think that they give more impact than the conventional indigo…..a bamboo stick/pen was used for the wheeling birds….a couple more days and the room will be completely empty, so I am painting like mad... see others from the series below Inks on Cotton Paper The sea is calm to-night. / The tide is full, the moon lies fair / Upon the straits;—on the French coast the light / Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand, / Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay. / Come to the window, sweet is the night-air! / Only, from the long line of spray / Where the sea meets the moon-blanch’d land, / Listen! you hear the grating roar / Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling, / At their return, up the high strand, / Begin, and cease, and then again begin, / With tremulous cadence slow, and bring / The eternal note of sadness in. Dover Beach M. Arnold

  • A sketch from the archives, painted today…provenance unknown, but perfect for the Empty Studio series, as it’s simple and understated... Sepia Inks on Industrial Paper. Behind the golden western hills / The sun goes down, a founder’d bark, / Only a mighty sadness fills / The silence of the dark. / O twilight sad with wistful eyes, / Restore in ruth again to me / The shadow of the peace that lies / Beyond the purple sea. / The sun of my great joy goes down, / Against the paling heights afar, / Gleams out like some glad angel’s crown, / A yellow evening star; / The glory from the western hills / Falls fading, spark on spark, / Only a mighty sadness fills / The spaces of the dark. George Charles Whitney
