  • Captured on an early morning at Denver’s historic Washington Park. Standing here taking in the scene, was just amazing, sheer serenity….so utterly quiet I didn’t even hear the Goose swimming by. Amazing that in such a large city, nature thrives, never knowing that this peace is surrounded by so many people. And for once, the world just seemed like such a better place….. —-—-—-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • This guy is so beautiful .. I got photos of him in a wetlands park that I usually go but have never seen them there before The Wood Duck or Carolina Duck () is a medium-sized perching duck. A typical adult is about 19 inches in length with an average wingspan of 29 inches. This is about three-quarters of the length of an adult Mallard. It shares its genus with the Asian Mandarin Duck... / The adult male has distinctive multi-colored iridescent plumage and red eyes. The female, less colorful, has a white eye-ring and a whitish throat. Both adults have crested heads. When swimming, wood ducks bob their head back and forth in a jerking motion, which makes them easy to spot. /

  • Cold Duck anyone ? Happy Holidays! A photograph I took by my local park during winter 07. This winter is just as snowy, I should go see what it looks like today.

  • Taken at the Knoxville Zoo, April 2009 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Black-bellied Whistling-duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis), formerly also called Black-bellied Tree Duck, is a whistling-duck that breeds from the southernmost United States and tropical Central to south-central South America. In the USA, it can be found year-round in parts of southeast Texas, and seasonally in southeast Arizona, and Louisiana’s Gulf Coast. It is a rare breeder in such disparate locations as Florida, Arkansas, Georgia and South Carolina. It is widely known as “pijije” (also “pixixi” or “pichichi”), “chiriría” or “sirirí” in Latin America, though this can also refer to other whistling-ducks and a qualifyer such as “ala blanca” or “aliblanco” (“white-winged”) is usually added to signify this species. In Mexico, it is also called pato maízal (“cornfield duck”) due to its habit of visiting such fields after harvest. And since it is one of only two whistling-duck species native to North America, it is occasionally just known as “the whistling duck” in the southern USA. The Black-bellied Whistling-duck is an unusual species among North American waterfowl. With its long legs, peculiar appearance and odd habits, it was described by one early American ornithologist[citation needed] as “most un-duck-like”. Its numbers are increasing in North America.
