  • “Praying for Rain” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © “As the farmer knelt down on the salty sand, / He needed rain to save his land. / The crops were wilting, the cattle all dead, / He looked around, not a word was said. / The ground was dry, where is the rain? / What could stop this worthless pain? / The farmer cursed in sheer despair, / He did not have a drop to spare. / A thundercloud covers the western sky, / A bolt of lightning explodes near by. / The farmer looks up and begins to pray, / Hoping that the rain will come his way. / Then drip-by-drip it starts to fall, / The crystal water like a clear glass wall. / The trees and flowers all in bloom, / Then once again, gone is the gloom. / The water fills the old parched creek, / The rivers bulge as the waters peak. / The mud squelches through the farmer’s dry old / hands, / As he thanks the Lord for saving his land.” / ~ Meg Hayes Year Seven / St Mary’s Primary School Praying for Rain was featured in the: Redbubble Homepage – November 08

  • Central and eastern Oregon is spotted with once vibrant farming communities that today exist as little more than a crossroads. This old church served such a community. It remains standing but the town it once served is no more. Please check out my series Grain Elevator, Sherman County, Oregon for a look at another historic Oregon building. More images: /

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:16 / For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: / Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / Canon 400d / /

  • This was taken inside the Cathedral of Toledo, in Spain. It was taken on film and the print was scanned to digital. The Cathedral of Saint Mary of Toledo, also called Primate Cathedral of Toledo, is a church in Spain. The seat of the Archdiocese of Toledo, it is one of the three 13th century High Gothic cathedrals in Spain and is considered to be the magnum opus of the Gothic style in Spain. It was begun in 1226 during the reign of Ferdinand III and the last Gothic contributions were made in the 15th century when, in 1493, the vaults of the central nave were finished, during the times of the Catholic Monarchs.

  • The time of transition for wiccan’s and believers of the old faith to submit and merge with the Roman Catholic Church. A good image based on the Salem witch trials and their personal stories. In Remembrance of all the men and women who were persecuted and executed during the hysteria of the Salem Witch trials. Here are some to name a few: Bridget Bishop / John Proctor / George Burroughs / Alice Parker / Ann Pudeator / Sarah Wildes / Wilmott Redd / John Willard / Margaret Scott / Martha Corey / Samuel Wardwell / Martha Carrier / Mary Easty / Rebecca Nurse / Sarah Good / George Jacobs, Sr. / Elizabeth Howe / Susannah Martin The Salem witch hunt began in January of 1692.The first two “afflicted” persons were Parris’ daughter and neice, nine-year-old Elizabeth “Betty” Parris and eleven-year-old Abigail Williams. After days of displaying characteristics of aberrant behavior including claims of sharp pain, paralyzation, choking, crawling under furniture, staring-into-space, making non-sensical noises and crying out, they were prayed over by Reverend Parris and several local ministers. When this failed to cure them, the local physician, Dr. William Griggs was called in to examine the girls. His diagnosis was that their malady was of a spiritual nature. They were under the “evil hand” of witchcraft. Ultimately the group of “afflicted” would grow to include many more children. All of these would claim to be “tortured, wasted, pined and consumed” by the spells and invisible specters of local residents who were witches. Altogether, the “afflicted children” would accuse over two hundred individuals, most of whom would escape prosecution. Nearly fifty would save their lives by confessing to the crime of witchcraft, and begging the community’s forgiveness.(This group would be asked to turn “state’s evidence” and help the court ferret out more suspects.) Twenty would lose their lives through the actions of Salem’s Court of Oyer and Terminer, nineteen by hanging and one (Giles Corey) by the torture of pressing. There was a movie created called THE CRUICIBLE that depicts the salem witch trials. • I shot this on Thanks Giving Day on the roof of a church. It was about forty feet to the roof. as I reached the roof the ladder collapsed and I rode the ladder all the was to the ground and smashed my ankle, it was sore for a month. My friend and I got to shout for maybe 10min. before the cops showed up. I thought they were going to arrest us for sure. But they let us go and I got 2 sweet shots and that is why I call this shot Thanks Giving Day.

  • Sacre Coeur, Paris. The amazingly original basilica is located in Montmartre, leading to the highest point of Paris city. First constructed in 1875, it was not completed until 1914, due to a problematic law system that almost stopped construction entirely. Only saved by a loophole, construction finally continued to the end. I didn’t get to spend as much time here as I would normally like to, but the climb to the top of the tower was worth it for the incredible view of the city below. Original shot layered twice, with 3 textures, colour altering of each layer, blending of layers, further colour altering and an omni light effect. • Yorkshire UK The Bronte’s . / One of the best known pubs in Haworth, The Black Bull is apparently the hostelry where Branwell Bronte spent most of his time. Low ceilings, wood panelling and thick, heavy beams all add character to this ancient pub. Above the panelling, the rough cream walls are adorned with old photographs and paintings of the pub. . / One of the pub’s feature possessions is Branwell Bronte’s chair, on which he spent many an hour brooding over his beer, usually also under the influence of opium which he purchased from the apothecary opposite the pub.
