This is a Northern long-eared bat, they are tiny but like all bats voracious consumers of invertebrate life! Good thing with their appetites they aren’t the size of elephants! LOL

Haven’t seen all that many dogs here on RB, so thought I’d try this one. Was actually doing shots of a friend’s Chihuahuas (I know I spelled that wrong), and this black cocker from next door just saundered in, curled up and posed and said “You fool… WHY are you wasting time on those idiots… take me now while I’m in the mood”. So I did. The Chihuahuas hated me and the cocker. The friend loves dogs so she didn’t care.

Mazy is the Coolest Weimaraner ever. She’s as beautiful in person as in the photo. This photo was taken at the Animal Welfare League in Wingfield, South Australia. No photoshop was used other than to alter the colours a bit. The puppy’s smile, although blurred due to depth of field (i was using a 50mm f/1.4 at 1.4 focussing only on her eyes) was real! This puppy was adopted shortly after.

Black wolf seemed to be alone between Norris and Canyon in Yellowstone Park on Mother’s Day. She loped along side the highway, just inside the tree line, for miles.

Cane Corso (CC) :: Where Size, Power, Balance and Movement merge into the Ideal! / These dogs are classic Mastiffs without the loose skin of other related Mastiff breeds and were once used as cattle drivers. The Corso is a working breed and due to its history of boar hunting, guardian of people and farms, and butcher’s dog, they are required to function under high levels of stress. They are bred for strength, agility, temperament, endurance and, above all, companionship. Cane Corsos originating from the country of origin (Italy) tend to possess a more outgoing, stable temperament than their American counterpart. Cane Corsos are extremely loyal to their family and very aloof with strangers. They are a large breed of dog and take up lots of space on the couch, in the house and in the car. They drool and prefer to wipe their faces on their owners pants. Corsos like to sit close to their family and will sit on your feet, lean against you, often lay their heavy head in your lap. They like to follow you where ever you go and be a part of whatever you do. A cute, eight-week-old Corso puppy will soon turn into a large, dominant dog. That’s why it is very important that Corso get an early basic obedience education and live in a household that uses positive reinforcement and reward based training. Allow it to play, but never to jump! Trust me, you don’t want a 100++ pound mass of muscles jumping on you! Time, Commitment and Patience have their Rewards! We had a new visitor/puppy over at our place today. This puppy is a mixed breed….looks quite like a jack russell to me, his ears are exceptionally big for his build :D

It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market. “Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.” The Rottweiler was kept busy in these traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railroads replaced droving for getting livestock to market. Although there are still Rottweilers working stock all over the world, many other roles have been found for this versatile breed. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles including as messenger, draught and guard dogs. Currently they are often used as search and rescue, assistance, guide dogs for the blind, guard and police dogs in addition to their traditional roles. Although an extremely versatile breed used in recent times for many other purposes, the Rottweiler is first and foremost one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of herding breeds. A multi-faceted herding and stock protection dog of exceptional ability, it is capable of working all kinds of livestock under a wide variety of conditions. The breed is an ancient one, whose history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions traveled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army traveled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil. The principal ancestors of the first Rottweilers during this time was supposed to be the Roman droving dog, local dogs the army met on its travels, and dogs with molosser appearance coming from England and The Netherlands. This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. However, by the end of the 19th century as railroads became the main method for moving stock to market, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil. Photograph taken with Sony Cybershot early this morning – 20 May 2009. Other than cropping for redbubble the picture is as ‘real’ as it gets, ‘untouched’ and ‘as is’. The metal man had arrived and was reinforcing Alkatraz aka ‘The Den’ as my pooches have become little Houdini’s amongst other things. The sound of the drill scared them and they came to me for protection – being the evil mother that I am I left them sitting and tried to catch the moment. To get all six in one place and not chewing, fighting, digging or eating was simply beautiful.
