last year on the 7th of July 2007 I was looking through a Japanese/English dictionary for a name i could use for the characters that i was designing in illustrator. one word i typed in was prince and up came a few translations including one that caught my eye “mikoto” i spoke to a japanese friend who explained to me that the word was no longer used in that context as it was actually an ancient word used for the son of an emperor. i loved the story and i adopted the word to encompass all of the designs that i do. it has been a year that has where waves of creativity have had to compete with personal needs and my primary profession of being a teacher. What hasn’t waned is the warm and generous support of all my friends and supporters (especially those form red-bubble) from who seem to love what has been created. So i though as the first anniversary of mikoto passed on the 7/7/7 i would put all of the T-shirt designs onto one file. (its a few days late) thanks everyone who has commented, Bmailed, purchased, etc scotty (｡◕‿‿◕｡)

The sunlight through the petals and leaves looked lovely against the backdrop of the snow outside. Our short days make sunshine seem all the more precious, even indoors. / / / original pencil drawing ...stayed up very late drawing “Nature’s Child”... you know when it’s time for a baby to be born, i think it’s very similar with art… the inspiration just comes when it’s ready…and sometimes that means drawing til 3am like i did with this one. ...the drawing took about 3 hours, and the digital colouring took about 5 hours today. ...inspired by some fantastic eyes i’ve seen lately, (drawn by people on RB) and the dear little willy wagtails…they are so cheeky…they aren’t authentic in colour here, because they are always black and white with little markings above the eye…but i have put their essence into the work hopefully. I think this is my favourite so far :) /
