  • Winters Essence
    by Julie Thomas

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Title thanks to my husband… I was stumped and when I asked my husband for a suggestion for the title he said the daisies were natures beauty and shone amongst a gloomy winters day, which to him is the essence of winter. • CAPRICORN
    by ToastedGhost

    US$5.42–US$144.40

(I need Sagittarius to complete the series. If you are please contact me! asp) Created & commissioned by billyboy. Another creation for my Zodiac series. December 22 to January 20 Traditional / Capricorn Traits Practical and prudent / Ambitious and disciplined / Patient and careful / Humorous and reserved On the dark side…. Pessimistic and fatalistic / Miserly and grudging Capricorn is one of the most stable and (mostly) serious of the zodiacal types. These independent, rocklike characters have many sterling qualities. They are normally confident, strong willed and calm. These hardworking, unemotional, shrewd, practical, responsible, persevering, and cautious to the extreme persons, are capable of persisting for as long as is necessary to accomplish a goal they have set for themselves. They are reliable workers in almost any profession they undertake. They are the major finishers of most projects started by the ‘pioneering’ signs; with firm stick-to-it-ness they quickly become the backbone of any company they work for. Capricornians make of themselves, resourceful, determined managers; setting high standards for themselves and others. They strive always for honesty in their criticism of self, they respect discipline from above and demand it from those beneath them. In their methodical, tough, stubborn, unyielding way, they persist against personal hardship, putting their families and/or their work before their own needs and welfare to reach their objectives long after others have given up and fallen by the wayside. In fact when practical ability allied with the drive of ambition are required in employees to make a project succeed, Capricornians are the people to hire. They plan carefully to fulfill their ambitions (which often include becoming wealthy), they are economical without meanness, and able to achieve great results with minimum effort and expense. Because of their organizing ability they are able to work on several projects simultaneously. They have a great respect for authority but may not, if they reach high rank, be willing to listen to other opinions on things they are directly responsible for. As the ranking authority figure in a given situation they expect their underlings to be as self disciplined as they themselves are, and to perform every task undertaken to the highest standard. / They are, nevertheless, fair as well as demanding. Among their equals they are not always the most pleasant of work fellows for they are reserved and too conservative, valuing tradition more than innovation, however valuable the latter, and they are often humorless. There is also a tendency to pessimism, melancholy and even unhappiness which many Capricornians are unable to keep to themselves, especially if they fail personally. In the extreme this trait can make them a very depressed individual; ecstatic happiness alternating with the most wretched kind of misery which is so subconsciously buried that he or she should seek help if such emotions become frequent. For the above reason, capable Capricorn should spend many hours in meditation, gathering the strength to control such inner emotions. The swings in mood are not the only reason some Capricornians deserve the adjective based on their name – capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals they seem to be, and they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy. In certain individuals in whom the characteristic is strong, the temptation to do this has to be resisted with iron self-control. Another unexpected quality in some Capricornians is an interest in the occult which persists in spite of their naturally skeptical turn of mind. Their intellects are sometimes very subtle. They think profoundly and deeply, throughly exploring all possibilities before deciding on a ‘safe’ alternative. They have good memories and an insatiable yet methodical desire for knowledge. They are rational, logical and clearheaded, have good concentration, delight in debate in which they can show off their cleverness by luring their adversaries into traps and confounding them with logic. In their personal relationships they are often ill-at-ease, if not downright unhappy. They are somewhat self-centered but not excessively so, wary and cautious around people they do not know very well, preferring not to meddle with others and in turn not to allow interference with themselves, thus they tend to attract people who do not understand them. Casual acquaintances they will treat with diplomacy, tact and, above all, reticence. They make few good friends but are intensely loyal to those they do make, and they can become bitter, and powerful enemies. They sometimes dislike the opposite sex and test the waters of affection gingerly before judging the temperature right for marriage. Once married, however, they are faithful, though inclined to jealousy. Most Capricornians marry for life. Their occupations can include most professions that have to do with math or money and they are strongly attracted to music. They can be economists, financiers, bankers, speculators, contractors, managers and real estate brokers. They excel as bureaucrats, especially where projects demanding long-term planning and working are concerned, and their skill in debate and love of dialectic make them good politicians. They are excellent teachers, especially as principals of educational establishments where they have the authority to manage and organize without too much intimacy with the staff members. If working with their hands, they can become practical scientists, engineers, farmers and builders. The wit and flippancy which is characteristic of certain Capricornians may make some turn to entertainment as a career.

  • ARIES
    by ToastedGhost

    US$4.56–US$121.60

This is part of a Zodiac series Others in the series / PISCES / LIBRA / CANCER / LEO / TAURUS Aries March 21 to April 20 The Sun blazed in dynamic Aries, a fire sign on your birthday. The Sun in astrology stands for your inner nature, the light of your essential character. Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac, is a masculine sign ruled by the warrior planet Mars, whose motto must be “Crash through, or crash!”. A cardinal (creative and inventive) sign, Aries, the Ram, governs leadership and initiative. Aries people are bold and self-confident, although they tend to be overly impulsive. The Sun, the ruler of our inner nature, is very well placed in Aries, the sign of its exaltation. This energy is very attractive, even compelling, and few can resist being carried along in the jetstream. Ariens are always overflowing with ideas, schemes and plans to conquer the world, for a well-aspected sun in Aries radiates power and vitality. Many a moth has been burned in its flame! Life, of course, is one long party (which the more mothlike among us may find a just little wearing…). / Flair and Originality Ariens are great organisers, full of flair and originality, although usually lacking discipline and the capacity for prolonged effort (minions must be found to do the slog work!). You are intuitive and articulate, with the capacity to inspire others, especially in projects which have a clear outcome and do not require a long lead-time. You have masses of energy and courage and will rush in where angels fear to tread, for the Arien ego can be rather overbearing. Undue optimism, or impatience and desire for self-aggrandisement can result in wasted effort or even severe setbacks and disappointment. / Red Poppy, flower for Aries / A Determined Fighter The emblem for Aries is the Ram, a determined fighter and a powerful adversary, with a strong urge to express himself over the widest possible field of endeavour. Creative Aries, a cardinal sign, loves to be the leader and can organise fantastic and impressive ventures. Unfortunately, despite your desire to be the front-runner in all you do, sometimes you do get bored with the whole affair and can just wander off, or sit back and allow the lesser folk to have their way. This can see the whole house of cards collapsing, but happily your enthusiam is easily roused and when you set your mind to it you can inspire others to stick to those essential jobs that sometimes seem no more than the merest details to the noble Ram. You see, painful as this may seem, you really need the team as much as the team needs you! / Aries Rules the Head Aries rules the head, brain and eyes, so people with Aries active in their charts are subject to head injury, headaches, general problems with organs in the head and fevers (although the nose is ruled by Scorpio). You are all extremists and for this reason can fall prey to stress-related ailments and mental problems. However, although you can be highly-strung, your great fund of energy enables you to survive where other less exuberant folks might succumb. Your colours are red and white. Aries rules metallic iron and your birthstone is the brilliant diamond, symbolising clear strength, purified under pressure. Nature creates the precious diamond out of crumbly, coal-black carbon, by applying intense heat and pressure for a very long time. Flowers for Aries include the red poppy, geraniums, honeysuckle and hollyhocks. This is probably my best self portrait since I believe it reveals more of my true self than any other photo

2 Feb 07 was the launch day of RedBubble.com! Happy Birthday RedBubble! It’s been an incredibly busy year – thanks to all for your support and patience as we continue to build RedBubble. For me personally the most heartening thing over the last year has been the myriad of individual stories we hear in the RedBubble office. People selling their art for the first time. People rediscovering their creative passion. People forming new friendships. When we launched RedBubble on 2 Feb 07 this is what we wrote: People are inherently creative. Deep down, most of us love to come up with new ideas, express who we are, or take a different perspective on the world around us. This is particularly true of children. Remember chalk on the footpath, crayon on the walls, or a painting stuck proudly to the fridge with a magnet. Kids love stories, they love learning about new things, they ask obvious yet somehow overlooked questions. So why don’t many of us focus on our creative interests as adults? Is there something about the process of growing up that changes us, that convinces us to be serious and sensible? Do we lose the ability to be creative? Or does it just get buried amidst the responsibilities, worries and priorities of adult life? Look closer, though, and you’ll see sparks of creativity in adults everywhere. Since starting our RedBubble journey, we’ve been amazed at how many of our close friends have “confessed” to a secret creative hobby, a little spark of creativity that few else know about. Look at the statistics and the picture is clearer still. Over 2.5 million Australians regularly take part in some sort of creative or cultural activity. Almost 90% do this entirely for free, for the simple enjoyment of it. A fortunate few earn a living from it, but most keep their creative spark alive in their own time and without sharing it with the world. RedBubble was founded with a burning desire to improve this situation. And there are some major social and technological trends helping us out. New technology has placed the creative tools of professionals in the hands of amateurs. With digital cameras, editing software, low cost hardware and more, it is easier than ever to produce your own creative content. Truly, the line between professionals and talented amateurs is blurring. And the traditional distinction between producers on one side and consumers on the other fades away – now you can be both! Another important trend is the way that the internet helps side-step the tyranny of distance and lower the cost of distribution. For a country as huge and remote as Australia, this is life-changing. No longer can you be held hostage by limited product ranges, poor information or high costs. If it’s available elsewhere on the globe, you can find it, read about it and buy it in no time at all. Witness also the growth of MySpace and YouTube, riding an internet-powered wave of self-expression and connectedness. Not to mention the millions of blogs out there. For some it’s about fame and the chance of being discovered. But for many, it’s simply about expressing themselves or hanging out with others who share their interests. Yet, plenty of people have held back from self-expression online. Creative talent does not necessarily go hand in hand with technical savvy. And many people don’t feel comfortable sharing their deeply personal creative work in existing online environments. So we asked ourselves: why isn’t there an online home for creative people? A place where they can belong to a genuine creative community, express their thoughts, get inspired, and collaborate with others? And why shouldn’t they be able to turn their creative passion into real objects for themselves or others, without worrying about hassles like producing, marketing, selling, and shipping? And so the concept for RedBubble was born. And the more we thought about it, the more excited we became about making it a reality. We wrote a business plan, left our jobs, scraped together funding, and built a talented team. Eight months later, here we are with the first version of RedBubble alive and kicking. Where RedBubble goes from here is up to you… One year later and this first RedBubble entry still holds true. With your support our vision is well on the way to being realized. Today RedBubble has a little under 38,000 members and about 600,000 works. The site is international with 33% of our visitors from the US, 31% from Australia, 16% from the UK, 5% from Canada and the balance from Germany, France, The Netherlands, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Italy, Norway, Belgium, Sweden and Israel. When we did the numbers in January our estimate is that RedBubble is the second fastest growing arts site on the Internet. And perhaps the most exciting thing is that year one was about learning how to walk (well fell over a lot). A year later and we’ve worked out how to walk – so 2008 should be an even more productive year for the evolution of RedBubble! Justin and I will post more on the 2008 planning in the next week. - Peter P.S. Because it’s our birthday we’ve got a free shipping offer for today (2 Feb) – just enter the coupon ‘happybirthday’ to receive our little birthday gift to the community.
