The Forget-me-not are traditionally worn by Newfoundlanders on July 1st in remembrance of those Newfoundlanders that died during the First World War. July 1 was chosen because of the high number of casualties suffered by the Royal Newfoundland Regiment on 1 July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. This field is in the Somme area of Northern France.

This began with a couple of Christmas Cactus blossoms and a little editing with PhotoImpact11, a few bubbles and I thought of a friend that I knew would just love this so…..it became a birthday card; edited with PhotoImapct11….hope you like it. On July 4 of 2008 some friends and family were gathered around a bonfire in our yard, shooting fireworks and sharing stories. It was also my 39th birthday (groan). As everyone was engaged in watching which fireworks the kids would send up next, I was watching the sun set in the west. I started to think about the last year of my life and of so many birthdays before and how the day was ending so joyously… so celebratory. I walked away from the festivities for a few moments into a freshly mowed alfalfa field and watched as this burning pink and orange sun slowly slid to the horizon and I thought to myself that of all the “grand finale’s” at every fireworks show across the USA that night, that this “finale” was the grandest of them all.

A digital interpretation of one of the most beautiful / faces ever created, Botticelli’s ‘Venus’, this digital / painting is from from ‘Botticelli’s Ladies’ by Norval / Arbogast. I was influenced by Zazzle artist Cheryl / Danials wonderful work with vintage art, and her / original models faces. I tryed to keep the features / as close to the original painting as possible, but / made the hair very ‘Mucha-esque. I hope you / share this beautiful face with your family and / friends.
