  • During the early eighties a building work at Aston Parish Church meant some graves had to be dug up. The gravestones were then used as a border to the paths to the church, presumably so those people that had been disturbed still had some sort of memorial to their life. This gravestone, dated 1698, is on the path to the main doors of the church.

  • The paths to Aston Parish Church are bordered with old grave stones removed in the eighties when building work required some graves to be dug uo.

  • When the old Trinity Road stand at Aston Villa was rebuilt there was a promise that an historic five panel mosaic, created by Italian master craftsman Oreste Bortoli, would be removed and saved. Unfortunately this was not done and a piece of amazing art and history was lost. After buying the club Randy Lerner learned about the mosaics and earlier this year, as a gift to supporters, paid for a new mosaic to be commissioned and placed on the front of the Holte End stand. Like the original the 2008 version has been installed by skilled Italian craftsmen and is made up of five panels while, once again, gold leafed tiles have been used for the crest’s lion and text as they were on the original. This is the central panel showing the club crest. The star above the lions paws is to commemorate Villa winning the European Cup in 1982, beating Bayern Munich 1-0 in Rotterdam, Holland.

  • Like the lost original mosaic, on the old Trinity Road stand, the 2008 version has been installed by skilled Italian craftsmen and is made up of five panels while, once again, gold leafed tiles have been used for the crest’s lion and text as they were on the original. This shows all five panels on the famous Holte End stand.
