  • Beautiful peacock at the Adelaide Zoo posing for me as I sat on the boardwalk watching. This amazing creature would walk up close, spread the plumage, look straight at me, then walk slowly off. I was privileged to have this happen about six times before others came along and disturbed the bird.

  • Taken yesterday in the Zoo, Belgium.

  • I was fascinated at the way the flamingos contorted their bodies as they were preening, taken at the flamingo lake at Paignton Zoo, Devon, UK., just before sunset and the warm golden reflections of the sun on the lake made the perfect contrast to the pink feathers of the flamingos. • / After many weeks of chasing pelicans out on our local lake and foreshore, I was amazed at how easily they could be shot after all down “at the supermarket”. Yes, this is indeed a zoo shot, and it was pelicans galore the day I visited with some wonderful Bubblers- it was just too easy to walk around and shoot away. I was and remain very pleased with the shots, though I must admit the fire for me with birds is in the flight, and in the chase. What I was amazed to learn when I got the shots up on the small screen at home, was just how sensuous this amazing bird could be. I had often seen the funny side, but now I was seeing them differently. / / / . / . / . / . / . / Nikon D70s / Nikon 70-300mm lens / f stop f/5 / exp 1/400th sec / focal length 220mm / Picasa editting to enhance contrast. / . / . / . / . / I owe my little “music lesson” to Larry Butterworrth / whose super-cool work is so worth a visit, and who patiently led me to water and this link where you directions to embedding a video here.
