  • During my holiday in Cairns I managed to drag the boys to 4 “zoos” in 2 days (impressive no?) This was ‘Birdworld’ at Kuranda, I’ve never been to one of these enclosures, I almost fainted when the second I walked inside this bird flew down and sat on my shoulder. Very cute little guy, until he decided he liked my sapphire earrings and wanted to bite them out of my ears! He wasn’t impressed when I told him no, and proceeded to bite me all over my hands! So cheeky! But absolutely adorable and such a little poser, I have plenty of shots of him.

  • The magnificent male Indian Blue Peacock has a long train of beautiful feathers, with eye spots, brown, yellow and green with black center, brilliant blue feathers on the body, green iridescent plumage and beautiful yellows, and grey feet. The male (peacock) Indian Peafowl has beautiful iridescent blue-green or green coloured plumage. The so-called “tail” of the peacock, also termed the “train”, is not the tail quill feathers but highly elongated upper tail coverts. The train feathers have a series of eyes that are best seen when the tail is fanned. • A power pole on Shore Drive in Bedford, Nova Scotia, has an ambiguous sign. Is it the usual “no parking”, or is an orniphobic sign to prevent birds from using these birdhouses? / The investigation continues. Taken with Canon Eos Rebel XSi and 18-55mm kit lens.

  • San Francisco, CA.

  • I believe this is a species of plantain eater, but I couldn’t find it in my bird book. Another nice picture out of Akegara National Park in Rwanda.

  • The Little Pied Cormorant is one of the most common of Australia’s waterbirds, occurring on water bodies of almost any size. It is entirely black above and white below. This was perched on a branch overhanging Tallow Creek, unperturbed by people on the path nearby and posing for photos.
