Which is about the communal abstract chatter that one encounters when in amongst a crowd of like-minded personalities. / I have chosen not to emphasize the precise detail of each bird but rather their general shape as they caper around, to give the impression of constant movement. Rough legged hawk (Buteo lagopus) A hawk of the North, the Rough-legged Hawk breeds in Arctic tundra and taiga regions around the northern hemisphere. Both dark and light forms are common, with many birds intermediate between the extremes. / The name “Rough-legged” Hawk refers to the feathered legs. The Rough-legged Hawk, the Ferruginous Hawk, and the Golden Eagle are the only American hawks to have legs feathered all the way to the toes. Taken in Las Vegas NWR, New Mexico, November 2005.

I think this is a juvenile female cardinal, judging from the color of the bill and from her childlike curiosity, hanging around the feeder longer than usual and looking around with intense interest and not a whole lot of nervousness as is evident in more mature birds. A beautiful trusting little girl!

I got a kick out of this little hummingbird as he sat on a branch guarding the nectar feeder. He looked scruffy and gruff, like he had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed and was in a bad mood. Maybe he just wasn’t happy that the papparazzia had invaded his space. Whatever the case, I named him Mr. Scruffy. “Don’t mess with me,” he seems to be saying.
