A male yellow headed blackbird near Oxbow Bend, Grand Teton National Park, USA. Nesting amongst reeds in marshes, the yellow headed blackbird feeds on insects and seeds. Migratory in nature, yellow headed blackbirds breed through the central United States into northern Canada. Winter grounds extend from the southwestern United States well into central Mexico. Common among songbirds, the male is the one blessed with spectacular plumage while females sport drab black and brown feathering. While the yellow headed blackbird is a flagrantly beautiful bird, it’s normal call is entirely non-melodic, raucous and harsh. Another of the beautiful features of Noosa Heads, is Weyba Creek and Lake Weyba. Just before the Noosa River exits to the Pacific Ocean, there is a offshoot called Weyba Creek. This feeds from Lake Weyba, nestled in the Noosa National Park area, Queensland, Australia. These river systems are all part of the Noosa Biosphere, and are home to many species of bird and animal life. Much of it, untouched by man, which is the way is should stay… Canon 50D, 16mm, 5:00pm. 9×12 pastel on Sennelier La carte paper FEATURED IN THE SISTERHOOD, THE DIVINE FEMININE, AND FEMININE INTENT Just something to go along with my Blackbird. Maybe I will do a whole series of women and birds. I think she captures that primal sacred feminine energy that red birds/cardinals symbolize.
Sandhill cranes prepare to fly to warmer climes. Clouds enshroud the Kenai mountains behind them as they fly over Cook Inlet. I had this printed quite large and feel delighted with the clarity of the cranes! Dedicated to Australia’s Barbara Burkhardt, with whom I had tea and a moment of joy. Wonderful subtle sense of humor (humour).. I feel fortunate to have met this adventuous, talented woman and her handsome husband as they toured Alaska. I assume all Australians are as fun.
