My work was featured in the group Video Montage / ( Thanks Muscular Teeth and Butchart ) Airbrushed and mixed media on canvas Excerpt from “Abigail’s Friends” written by Anthony Hedger illustrated by Carrie Glenn. ...“I think we better go back now.” She whispered to the butterfly. / “Why?” The butterfly asked. “It’s only my friends and they are having a special tea party just for you, come on and I’ll introduce you to them.” / “Er, ok, if you think I’ll be alright?” / “Of course you’ll be alright.” The red fox called to her. “Come on your tea is getting cold.” / So for the next two hours Abigail sat with Mr. Fox, Mr. Bear, Miss Rabbit, Ms. Blue bird and a hundred different butterflies and had tea and cake and chatted as though she had known them all her life. She gave each of them a big, big hug after and thanked them for making this the best birthday ever. / “Er, just before I do go home, how did you know it was my birthday anyway?” / “You could say a little bird told us.” The bear said gently and they all began to laugh…read more You can contact Carrie at: carrie@carrieglennstudios.com and please visit Carrie Glenn Studios* /

Watercolor and pencil on drawing paper. “My people are the Tuatha de Danann, and I’m the lover of handsome Caoimhin, he of the long, curling locks. Bored with those around me, I fell for this wild man. Driven from my land of Fianna for wanton behavior he was immoral even by our lax faery mores, but when he held in his arms, I cared not. And so I left the fairy dimension, accompanying him to the human world. We made love and laughed by the sea without cares until one day the magical wave sent by my father, Manannan Mac Lir swept me from mortal shores. I’d fallen asleep and was napping on the warm sand and pebbles of Glendore Bay in fair County Cork, when it caught me unaware. Trapped in its swift undertow I was returned to Fianna. For such and more I’m now a goddess of the otherworld, afterlife, and physical beauty, a goddess of the sea, often called the ruler of the waves. Fairy humor! For who knows better than I the sea’s great strength, the myriad hidden paths meandering beneath the western oceans, and that there is indeed life after life after life? From my lover I learned the deception of fair appearances, a graceful wave’s hidden power, ways of crossing one realm to another and back unseen. While forbidden to leave Fianna ever again, there are secret ways by which I travel to the earthly dimension, my still body lying as if asleep while spirit flies abroad. Often I don the guise of sea bird or shapely earth woman accompanied by three brightly feathered birds. These magical little creatures are always with me, and I feed them apples plucked from the World Tree that grows in the Otherworld. Their sweet singing charms the ailing to sleep, and waves of healing wash away pain and sickness while they dream”. Text and Image copyright 2007 Helena Nelson -Reed. On the 12th day of May 2008 I witnessed (along with thousands of others) a perfect circle in the form of a rainbow around the sun at about noon-time at a beautiful place in the Philippines. Completely perplexed, stunned and amazed at this extraordinary and divine sight, I HAD to create this artwork. Im not sure where you were or what you were doing at this same moment of time but I guess this is all we have. Small pigments of time all squeezed together. And if we’re blessed enough, we get moments like these and realise even for a second the gravity of God’s love. There were no photo’s taken at the time and all I had available to me was the memory of this moment… The moment my heart burned. Print available. / Vector digital art created in illustrator.

Watercolor and pencil, original available. / This image is about entering the Faerie dimension and on another level, the soul’s journey. Soul knows no time, and thus, as in the realms of fairie, night and day occur simultaneously. The soul seeks unification with all that is, desiring above all else to return to the Source. I envision it as feminine nnd forever seeking blissful reunion with the Beloved and here, have personified Soul in the countenance of a young woman. Her neck is elongated, for bodily distortion is associated with shamanic journeying into other realms, humans in the fairie dimension, and a symptom of visions attained after consuming Amanita mushrooms in shamanic ritual. Above Soul’s head, as if guiding and protecting, two wrens (messengers of the goddess Rhiannon) display the triple spiral within a flaming sun disk. The spirit of the land appears as golden goddess within an unfurling blossom. Amanita mushrooms and a living tapestry of centuries -old mycelium, weaves the woman, web like, into to her surroundings. The mycelium, a metaphor for ancient wisdom teachings, interlaces fantastic totem animals with herbs, celestial symbols, and the cosmic egg of creation. Honeybees, metaphors of wisdom, and ladybugs, my personal symbol for guardians, flit across the image. The interweaving of these elements symbolizes the living, timeless organism that is earth. The animals in this painting are connected with the Goddess and some, like the salamander, have alchemical associations. The bee is a Druidic totem connected with wisdom. The Ladybug one of my personal totems for good fortune and blessings. I placed my Ladybug here as a wish for good fortune to whomever looks into this painting. The Cosmic Egg hangs at her throat chakra, wihtin it is the void. The leaves are those of the world tree, in which new souls roost waiting to be born into this earthly dimension (A widespread shamanic belief). About the Symbolism: The combined elements are symbolic of Wholeness, unification with all that is. Reverence for the land and all upon it is the first step in an evolving consciousness. Spending time in natural surroundings, and with animals and plants reconnects us to what is Real. An inverted interpretation might be: When we wander off the path chasing will ‘o the wisps, the forest is dark, threatening place. Shadow and thick foliage hide unseen threats, and the wide path gradually narrows to a winding deer trail until suddenly there’s nothing left to follow. We are lost. This is the time for stripping life to basics, keeping only what’s needed for survival. If feeling indecisive, unsettled, restless or frustrated, set down the unnecessary baggage. Look closely at friendships and allow the superfluous and damaging ones to lapse, or sever them completely. Keeping life clean and simple is a good way to start finding the way back. Look to the in – dwelling goddess, trust Soul’s nature. Look for the sun, and move toward the Light.
