  • A Bald eagle silhouette against the moon.

  • It take a bald eagle five years to reach full maturity, this one is almost there.

  • A female Rufeous Hummingbird hovering over a Red Hot Poker while bather in the golden light of the setting sun. I like this image because it is the only one I have ever taken where the hummer turned and made eye contract with the camera.

  • This was just a lucky catch. My wife got some tulips for her birthday and I took one out as the sun was setting to try a get a nice shot. I put the vase down & as soon as I turned my back I heard the hummer behind me, I turned back around and had time to get off one shot before she realized she wasn’t interested in tulips. / Captured in Cave Creek, Arizona, with a Canon 20D. Maybe its because I love these birds, falcon. A lesser kestrel or small falcon. OR it is because of the clarity of the falcon. OR it is because the falcon looks like it is ready for hunt for food. OR it is because it looks like the falcon is head right for you. OR it is because its is my first image added to my favorites. OR it is because……….Well I think it is because of its an overall beautiful bird!

  • 1433 views as of Nov. 10, 2009 Challenge Winner – Birds in Flight, #12 Great Features Group There aren’t many things that bring me more joy than the companionship of the Black-Capped Chickadees that inhabit the woods behind our home. They visit us daily, and follow me along the trail whenever I go for a walk. I could be 3 property lines over and they will still follow me! It is not unusual for them to land on the end of my camera lens as I’m trying to frame a photo, or flutter around my legs, looking for their sunflower seeds. These little songbirds bring me more joy than I can ever truly express. What a gift they are! I would be filled with great sadness if they ever disappeared. They are a huge part of my passion for nature & wildlife photography and for capturing the beauty that surrounds us everywhere. This image was created by merging 2 of my chickadee in flight photos and then blending the sky together. Original images taken on my property in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. / / / More Chickadee Photos / View Renee Dawson’s Gallery / Image included in the CHICKADEE CALENDAR

  • But more wonderful than the lore of old men and the lore of books is the secret lore of ocean. Blue, green, gray, white or black; smooth, ruffled, or mountainous; that ocean is not silent. All my days have I watched it and listened to it, and I know it well. At first it told to me only the plain little tales of calm beaches and near ports, but with the years it grew more friendly and spoke of other things; of things more strange and more distant in space and time. Sometimes at twilight the gray vapors of the horizon have parted to grant me glimpses of the ways beyond; and sometimes at night the deep waters of the sea have grown clear and phosphorescent, to grant me glimpses of the ways beneath. And these glimpses have been as often of the ways that were and the ways that might be, as of the ways that are; for ocean is more ancient than the mountains, and freighted with the memories and the dreams of Time. (H. P. Lovecraft)

  • I was totally in Awe as these beautiful birds flew overhead yesterday evening shooting in the Noosa Basin again.. I noticed them in the distance a few days back, with my earlier shots, and was determined to get these close. I didn’t manage to get too close unfortunately, but did snap this one. They come here in the evenings to hang out on a small dead tree. I will get these close one day soon :) Fingers crossed they hang around for a while. They have a beautiful “sing” call, rather than the other species of cockatoo seems to be more a “squark”.. Canon 50D, 400mm. Noosa Basin, Noosaville, Queensland. This was the last shot I managed to get with the 1/400 shutter, then most the captured were blurred due to low light. Available Large, best viewed large!
