  • A crested lark in early morning sunlight in the dune area of the United Arab Emirates. These guys are native, and very hardy surviving in the harsh desert environment and they have a wonderful light song. This male was too preoccupied with competitors to pay much attention to me (that is why his crest is up) Featured in “Natural Color and Light” Dec 23rd -2008

  • Fixed graphite and white pencil.

  • A female Northern cardinal lit for a split second, allowing me to take this shot. More wary than most songbirds, the cardinal is skittish and alert and difficult to photograph at close range.

  • Though this bird house is actually occupied at the present time by chickadees, this male Northern cardinal paid a visit to their home and sang his heart out on top of their roof. I thought of the phrase, “Lord of the Manor,” when I witnessed Mr. Redbird perched atop the little red house (which was a gift to me from my grandson, a lovely find he came across in a National Geographic catalog and which he thought Mammy would love. I do and so do the chickadees!)

  • Great Crested Grebe nesting at the University of York. / Girlies had taken me Grebe hunting today and I was delighted to find a second nest, this one quite close to the edge of the lake and reasonably accessible through a bramble patch. Happily, this nest is well within the reach of my camera & tele-extender lens. / Mrs Grebe was somewhat disturbed by 2 Canada geese battling near her nest, but made no attempt to leave her eggs. / 040409 / Sony H50 contrast saturation gamma photofilter, dodge surrounding bird PSE7 / 040409 Nice hat This sky where we live / Is no place to lose your wings. / So love, love, love. / Hafiz حافظ Human beings are members of a whole, / In creation of one essence and soul. / If one member is afflicted with pain, / Other members uneasy will remain. / If you have no sympathy for human pain, / The name of human you cannot retain. / Saadi “Of one Essence is the human race, / thus has Creation put the base; / One Limb impacted is sufficient / For all Others to feel the Mace ” / —Saadi (1184–1283) “There is only one sacred manuscript, the sacred manuscript of Nature, which alone can enlighten the reader.” Hazrat Inayat Khan All profits from my sales will be donated to Butterfly Conservation. • Mrs Grebe saw & heard me approach but for once I had the camera ready and so was fast enough to get this view of her crest fully raised as she turned her head towards me. Edwardian ladies thought this wonderful crest should decorate their hats, rather than the birds’ heads. The grebes were hunted almost to extinction to satisfy this vanity. / Wild birds nesting at the University of York, UK. / 240409 / Sony H50 native lens crop PSE4 filter disposablewarmwashblurdodge / 240409 Mummy grebe This sky where we live / Is no place to lose your wings. / So love, love, love. / Hafiz حافظ Human beings are members of a whole, / In creation of one essence and soul. / If one member is afflicted with pain, / Other members uneasy will remain. / If you have no sympathy for human pain, / The name of human you cannot retain. / Saadi All profits from my sales will be donated to Butterfly Conservation. • A Crested Cara Cara is a member of the Falcon family. Cara Cara’s will feed on small snakes, lizards and other small prey but their main diet is carrion. Often found like you see in this photo on the fence line over looking the highway for any fallen prey. These birds live in a concentrated area of Central Florida, and virtually unknown outside the interior of south and central Florida. I have tried for many years now to capture one of these cool looking birds, although seen many times, often out of reach of my 300mm lens. This is my all time favorite shot because it took me 3 long years to get. Taken off the fence line of Lykes Brothers Ranch, in Florida / Canon Rebel / ISO 200 / 1/250s / F5.6 / Cropped a bit to get a closer look, other then that right from the camera C is for Crested Caracara / Taken on June 27, 2009 / / Thanks to the groups below for the feature / Canon DSLR / 12 Great Features / Image Writing

  • darrylfowler.com.au View Sales Categories, Anglesea / Point Roadknight / Urquharts Bluff / Airey’s Inlet / Great Ocean Road / Water in Motion / Abstract Art I spent 3 1/2 hours with the CRESTED TERNS capturing them going about the daily routines. / This is one of my favourites, there is so much going on in the air and on the ground…. It took me some time before the birds realized I wasn’t a threat and allowed me to get close enough to them to start capturing them with detail and mass. This is my story about the above image with the meaning of the scene… "As the tide started to flood the reef the crested terns began to land for an easy feed of small unsuspecting fish and crustations that where making their ill fated journey across the surface with the normal safety of the tide being maybe outweighed by the number of hungry terns waiting for them to swim and crawl past..?" All images from this series are hand held there is no time for tripods, shoot and ask questions later.. I shot this image with a 17-50mm lens and shot 8 Gig of images from this session I may never really get through all of them but I had an awesome time capturing them..
