OK, so it is not everyone’s cup of tea, but this photo was taken in fading light at the Alice Springs Sewage Farm. The Crakes were scampering around the muddy fringes of the settlement ponds, the yet to be identified Snipe had gone to find a safe place to sleep and the Fairy Martin swarmed like mosquitoes feeding on the rising hordes of buzzy things setting out for their evening activities. I had seen around 40 species of bird, some from as far away as Mongolia, others more familiar, all enjoying the permanent water and abundant invertebrate prey that characterise such infrastructure. It was a lovely evening. You’re not a real birder ‘till you hang out at shit farms! Northern Territory, Australia.

After searching through 5 different bird books, I am inclinded to say that this is a Northern Cliff Swallow…... Am I correct? It is not listed in my local bird books as a resident of Tennessee.
