Taken in my back yard in Southern Ontario, this common sparrow knew enough to diffuse the water by putting his foot on the spout of my fountain so he could take a bath.

A black white version of Little Shivers

Night Terror are a series of images taken around Fitzroy, Melbourne. Everything gets a little bit scarier at night.

This male painted bunting frequented my birdbath this past summer. I thought this Irish blessing would be a good companion piece with this image of a rainbow bird.

I did this one for Judi, I have the feeling she’ll like this one a lot (hope so anyway). Just a little thank you to her for loaning me some ‘bubbles’ the other day… ;-)

Taken in the grounds of Netherby Cottage at Fagan Park, in the northwest of Sydney (Australia). Some of the spring blooms have faded but the variety of greens still appealed to me (as did the coincidental inclusion of a bench!). For some reason I love this…

This female Eastern bluebird stopped late in the afternoon for a much needed break from hunting and feeding babies to take a dip in the birdbath. She splashed happily after lingering for a while on the edge of the birdbath. She was facing the west as light filtered through the trees and rested on her lovely little form. I intensified the effect with light filters from PhotoShop.

This little titmouse, spent a good deal of time sitting at the heated birdbath, on this cold and snowy day.

It’s often the little things in life that we pass by. / Take the time to look deeper & discover hidden treasures in the everyday. Birdbath situated in my garden.

Today, the bluebirds came to the birdbath for a splash. They saw me nearby, but I think they’re used to me now and were so eager for a cooling bath, they got closer than they’ve ever gotten to me before. Here’s Father Bluebird as he anticipates the plunge.

as I was taking photos, this gray squirrel decides to hop up on the birdbath. I thought he was going to hop in the water, but he just got a healthy drink
-
Two rainbow lorikeets having a bath in a small waterfall.
-
A teeny tiny snail with a teeny tiny friend. I happen to think these snail have just gorgeous shells! These were only about 4-5mm long. The ants that are just over the ledge (!!) and are easily seen in the other photos were only about 2mm long. Apparently these guys are fully grown… imagine how tiny their babies are ;D And when these snails ‘walk’, their shell’s bob from side to side!!
-
Just beyond the jungle is the home of the snails, ants and millipedes! A well loved birdbath. It’s been glued it back together about four times, but it keeps falling over… maybe from the weight of all the rosellas, lorikeets, galahs, noisy miners and pigeons.

My mother and I produced an Australian kid’s book about a pair of baby magpies (true story) that needed nursing back to health… this is one of a few of the sketches from the book that I thought were cute enough to display here. The book is for sale if anyone is interested in obtaining one for their kids.
