It’s extremely satisfying when as a photographer you capture an image like this. It’s that microsecond of crystallisation of all factors that make a great image (even if I say so myself). / This is a female Galah ( a native Australian Parrot) that is both numerous and widespread in this country. Large flocks of them frequent grain and cropland areas and they are even more common in some suburban areas with parks and gardens than they used to be.

The defensive Tower house of Smailholm, just over the Scottish border, near Kelso. The tower was built in the mid 1400’s at a time when lawlessness and violent bands of reivers, ravaged the lands both sides of the English-Scottish border. And a solitary white swan, resides below the Tower Even today, the landscape is lonely, and you can easily imagine the starkness of those dark days.

Found this lurking in a hard drive. Taken from the Eureka tower last year just before they banned cameras in ‘The Edge’ – a glass ‘box’ that extends out from the top floor and hangs over the city 92 floors below. This image was taken through the floor of ‘The Edge’. I adjusted the levels aggressively and burned the reflections of the people to make them stand out more. /

Location : Curbar Edge, Curbar, Peak District, Derbyshire, England Map: Google Maps Date and Time: 1 March 2008, 7.38 a.m. Camera Details: ISO 200 : f/22 : 1.6 seconds : 18mm : Nikon D40 : Nikon 18-55mm lens : Polariser Shot narrative: / I’m just fascinated over what the low light of a rising sun can do to a landscape. The title to be exact should read “With The Birds, and the sheep and Simon Gladwin and the dog walker with his dog I shared this nearly lonely view” but I went with the RHCP’s shorter (and nearly true) version of events. Taken on the RBUK meet up in 2008. Other shots from Derbyshire:
