  • A Great Egret leaps of a Tree limb at Green Cay Preserve, Delray Beach, Florida after I won the “War of Wait” with him.

  • When i saw the competition title it reminded of The Drowned World by J.G Ballard i read a couple of years ago. The visuals the book conjured in my imagination of a kind of a near future world that was slowly heating up and the simpler formsof life where much better at adapting to the changing conditions- leading the world to be regained in thick jungle and swamps. Seemed kinda chaotic and infinate. My style is heavily influenced by graffiti.

  • A Nesting Pair of Great Blue Herons don’t mind the photographers capturing their private moments at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Florida during the mating season last year.

  • A Great Blue Heron comes out of the grass and goes airborne at Savannas Preserve, Port St Lucie, Florida.

  • A Tri Colored Heron stops to gaze at it’s shadow.

  • I was sitting on this Turkey Vulture waiting to capture a typical Vulture launch from this tree stub when, KA-POW!... , a Red Shouldered Hawk swooped down and knocked this Vulture off his branch. I was stunned to see this same hawk do it again seconds later. / Nothing like good neighbors on the street I guess!

  • This Great Blue Heron lit atop a cypress tree and was silhouetted beautifully against the rosy sky at sunset on Lake Martin in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.

  • A Great Blue Heron at Green Cay, Delray Beach, Florida, USA

  • I frequent a swamp that was on my way to and from work. I caught this Red Winged Black bird just as it was coming in for a landing.

  • This one is for my dear, dear friend Renee who will be celebrating her birthday on January 29. Renee and I met when we were in college studying to become teachers. We graduated in 1971 and have kept in touch all these years. We still visit each other regularly, share photos of our kids and grandkids, swap stories, and laugh until we cry or cry until we laugh! She is a one in a million, once in a lifetime, kind of friend, and I cherish her so much. Happy Birthday, Renee! Many many more! Laissez les bon temps rouler! This scene is from the Atchafalaya Swamp, a place which Renee, a fellow Cajun and Louisianian, can well identify with.

  • Acrylic and Mixed Media / Painted by Ciska 03/2008 / ORIGINAL SOLD / 76.2cm x 101.6cm Leaping and flapping their spread wings, a majectic pair of mated adult brolgas reinforce their bond with an elaborate and enthusiastic courtship dance. Comprising intricate sequences of coordinated bows, theatrical jumps, runs and short flights, dancing is the most spectacular of all the brolga’s social behaviours.

  • dedicated to Nikki Mulkern / acrylic on vinyl 33 1/3 album / ORIGINAL SOLD

  • A woman in a bright orange dress looks out over the backwaters in Kerala, India. That is a banana tree she is standing next to. Not only is it’s fruit delicious and sweet (much better than the crappy bananas we get in Melbourne), but the large leaves are used as plates for eating spicy ‘thali’ throughout Kerala and Tamil Nadu. I would like to have framed this a little differently, but it was taken from a moving boat, and only seen at the last second.
