A female Rufeous Hummingbird hovering over a Red Hot Poker while bather in the golden light of the setting sun. I like this image because it is the only one I have ever taken where the hummer turned and made eye contract with the camera.

This was just a lucky catch. My wife got some tulips for her birthday and I took one out as the sun was setting to try a get a nice shot. I put the vase down & as soon as I turned my back I heard the hummer behind me, I turned back around and had time to get off one shot before he realized he wasn’t interested in tulips. This is technically a Scarlet Robin, though it is often referred to as (the Australian) Robin Redbreast. This image was take on the Great Alpine Rd near Mt.Hotham at the start of the Razorback. Shot this back in November, 2004, when the grass was much greener, and there was water in the dam. There’s only been water in that dam one other time since then, and it lasted around 6 weeks….this is a nice reminder of what we used to have…. / I have a passion for birds of prey; they are just such magnificent birds to me!! This is a combination of two photos I had taken. The background photo is a sunset from my home and the other is of a red-tailed hawk that was in captivity due to a permanent injury. I’ve used PS to alter this photo. The inspiration for this piece has come from a responsibility I feel I have … to HELP protect our beautiful resources in nature.
