The Eagle Owl didn’t seem too keen for me to take this picture, puffing himself up, hissing and clicking his beak. Or possibly, he was striking a dramatic pose for me…

Barred owl, wild, watching over the woods below for any sign of activity which might mean a meal for this silent denizen of the trees. / /

I love this shot. The Wife and I were doing the down river canoe ride. I had the long lens and this beautiful bird flew up on a dead tree branch to show his stuff I guess. I pulled up the camera and the river was gentle for the capture. Lucky and happy too.. I decided to try to clean up the old slide image a bit. 6-11-2008 Perfect To Hang In The Den

I wish I had wings so that I could fly like an eagle to the highest points upon the earth and dip into the lowest realms to see all the beauty of this magnificent world we live in. Collaboration with Marvin Collins image of a Hawk “Surveying His Domain” and my image “Grand Canyon – Afternoon”. The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge carved by the Colorado River in the United States state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For those of you who are familiar with Marvin’s magnificent world of birds, this is a collaboration with one of my favorites of Marvin’s combined with on of my Grand Canyon captures. I am in awe of Marvin’s wonderful bird photography. I wanted to see this one against a backdrop that would enhance both images for a perfect marriage of photographic work of two artist’s images captured in Arizona, USA. Marvin’s fabulous image…Shot in Marana AZ “Surveying His Domain” I combined Marvin’s image with my Grand Canyon – Afternoon shot taken a few months ago on my first trip ever to see this wonderful natural wonder of the world “Grand Canyon – Afternoon” I first enhanced the Grand Canyon with Photomatix HDR. Then I used Photoshop CS3 and copied Marvin’s image of the Hawk onto the clipboard and pasted it into the Canyon image. Once I had moved the Hawk where I wanted it in the image, I merged the two. Next, I used Micrografx to clean up the edges where the two images were merged. Finally, I used Micrografx Lighting effects to enhance and bring out the image of the Hawk for a more dramatic final effect. / I have a passion for birds of prey; they are just such magnificent birds to me!! This is a combination of two photos I had taken. The background photo is a sunset from my home and the other is of a red-tailed hawk that was in captivity due to a permanent injury. I’ve used PS to alter this photo. The inspiration for this piece has come from a responsibility I feel I have … to HELP protect our beautiful resources in nature.

Rough legged hawk (Buteo lagopus) A hawk of the North, the Rough-legged Hawk breeds in Arctic tundra and taiga regions around the northern hemisphere. Both dark and light forms are common, with many birds intermediate between the extremes. / The name “Rough-legged” Hawk refers to the feathered legs. The Rough-legged Hawk, the Ferruginous Hawk, and the Golden Eagle are the only American hawks to have legs feathered all the way to the toes. Taken in Las Vegas NWR, New Mexico, November 2005.

The Snowy Owl – The Snowy Owl is a large, diurnal white Owl that has a rounded head, yellow eyes and black bill. The feet are heavily feathered. A distinctive white Owl, their overall plumage is variably barred or speckled with thin, black, horizontal bars or spots. Females and juveniles are more heavily marked than males – adult males may be almost pure white, although they have up to three tail bands. Adult females are distinctly barred throughout, and have from four to six tail bands. Immatures are very heavily barred throughout, and dark spotting may codominate or dominate the overall plumage. Snowy Owl calls are varied, but the alarm call is a barking, almost quacking krek-krek-krek-krek; the female also has a softer mewling pyee-pyee-pyee-pyee or “prek-prek-prek”... So unlike the one they use in the Harry Potter films, this Hedwig is actually female. They use male birds to portray her in the film because a bird with an all white plumage looks more impressive they think! bit of unless knowledge for you eh?

Eagle at Farmington Bay. The background was pretty bland so my good friend bamagirl38 has been taking the time to teach me how to change them. This is my first attempt. Please take the time to check her out on RedBubble! /

This piece was inspired by my passion for the Birds Of Prey, and the “Very Special” friendship that I share with my dear friend Julie Langford. So I’d like to dedicate this piece to Juls and To Special Friendships! / This is two photos I’ve edited and blended in PS. The background shot is one I had taken from my backyard as the sun was setting. And the bird of prey is a Tawny Eagle that Julie Langford had taken. I think it is an incredibly stunning shot!!! And I hope you like what I’ve done with this piece Juls!! :-)) Pleas see more of Juls Beautiful work / Some Info: / The eagle is one of the biggest and most powerful birds in the world. / Eagles have been linked to power and dignity by people everywhere. / Some naturalists believe an eagle can see a rabbit two miles away. / Eagles are found on every continent except for Antarctica. Some live in swamps and jungles, and still others live high in the mountains, along the shores of large lakes or in forests. / The eagle can glide for long periods of time without having to flap its long, broad wings. It is an expert at hitchhiking a ride on rising air currents. Using air currents, it may soar more than two miles above the ground. / Eagles are not the fastest birds, but they can reach speeds of about one hundred miles an hour. / An eagle’s eyes are very important part of its hunting equipment. It would starve without them. To protect them from injury, the eagle has a third eyelid that it can see through. This eyelid is called a nictitating membrane. It moves across the eye from side to side, cleaning and moistening the eye. / The eagle has made a comeback from the edge of extinction. More work is needed though to insure that the numbers continue to grow. We can help them by working together!!
