  • Blue Jay

  • For a brief moment today there was a break in the clouds and the sun came through. The birds came from everywhere. I caught this Blue Jay as he was speeding off to another yard.

  • A Jay wonders. A composite of 2 images merged/blended together using Photoshop CS3. Both images were taken with a 300mm lens in florida. The background colors in both images were similar, requiring some color and lightening adjustments. Once the color and light was adjusted, the bird was selected and dragged into the blank. The blur, smudge & clone tools were used to smooth out any artifacts after image importing the bird.

  • I shot this one through a double pane glass window.

  • Taken at Exeter Quayside in Exeter, South Devon. England, UK A shot of these geese captured just along the riverside at Exeter Quayside…..just with the one swan who thought he could get away with looking like a goose LOL

  • Another shot with one of my birds… These gray jays live around my cabin year round. They come when I whistle and even accompany me on hikes. They’ll land on me and land just about anywhere I ask them to … with a little prompting … like some nuts or seeds … or a taste of peanut butter. This is at 10,000 feet elevation in the Rocky Mountains. (That would be over 3,000 meters I think.) The old wheel is in my front yard. This was taken November 29, 2009.

  • Blue Jay at the feeder in my front yard in Michigan. According to the Birds of Michigan Field Guide, the Blue Jay is a “Higly intelligent bird, solving problems, gathering food and communicating more than other birds. Will scream like a hawk to scatter birds at a feeder. Known as the alarm of the forest, screaming at intruders in woods. Known to eat eggs or young birds from the nexts of other birds. One of the few birds to cache food. Feathers don’t have blue pigment; refracted sunlight casts blue light.”
