This photo captures the essence of the harrier as it hunts a Fall ripened hay field near the mouth of the Fraser River in British Columbia, Canada. His keen eyesight and incredible maneuverability give him considerable hunting advantage.
The Great Grey Owl rivals the Eurasian Eagle Owl and the Blakiston’s Fish Owl as the world’s largest owl. They breed in North America from Lake Superior to the Pacific coast and Alaska, and from Scandinavia across northern Asia. They are permanent residents, but may move south and southeast when food is scarce. These birds wait, listen and watch for prey, then swoop down; they also may fly low through open areas in search of prey. Their large facial disks focus sound, and the asymmetrical placement of their ears assists them in locating prey. They have excellent hearing, and may capture prey moving beneath 60 cm (2 feet) of snow in a series of tunnels. These owls can crash through snow that could support the weight of a 180-pound person. Great Grey Owls reply almost fully upon small rodents, with voles being their most important food source. Locally, alternative prey animals (usually comprising less than 20% of prey intake) include hares, moles, shrews, weasels, thrushes, grouse, Gray Jays, small hawks and ducks.

Yet another shot of her in all her glory! Sorry can’t help myself.
I love this picture…one of the best I have taken in my opinion…I saw this red-tailed hawk on the side of the road by Midway, UT and pulled over and got this shot. I have a 500mm mirror lens I just purchased and the bird filled the entire frame…I like the catchlight in the bird’s eye… Nikon D200
After spending the winter in South America, the Swainson Hawks have returned to the Sulphur Springs Valley. / Taken near Kansas Settlement, Az.
Yesterday we had lunch at the lake, and just as we finished and got out of the car to take a walk, this beautiful Hawk flew into the tree right next to us. He sat there for a few minutes, then took off, soaring over the lake. Hawk brings us Messages from Spirit, so I always feel extremely blessed when he pays me a visit. Lake Estes, Estes Park, Colorado.
My way of show my love for this awesome bird.

Having the right spiritual connection can help us to access the ‘big picture’ view… This series of paintings have been inspired by simply looking out my window in the morning to see Hummingbirds each day – a couple days ago a big Hawk decided to make an appearance, and well, so it goes… Original Painting Available for Purchase – please inquire for more information
