/ I have a passion for birds of prey; they are just such magnificent birds to me!! This is a combination of two photos I had taken. The background photo is a sunset from my home and the other is of a red-tailed hawk that was in captivity due to a permanent injury. I’ve used PS to alter this photo. The inspiration for this piece has come from a responsibility I feel I have … to HELP protect our beautiful resources in nature.

Rough legged hawk (Buteo lagopus) A hawk of the North, the Rough-legged Hawk breeds in Arctic tundra and taiga regions around the northern hemisphere. Both dark and light forms are common, with many birds intermediate between the extremes. / The name “Rough-legged” Hawk refers to the feathered legs. The Rough-legged Hawk, the Ferruginous Hawk, and the Golden Eagle are the only American hawks to have legs feathered all the way to the toes. Taken in Las Vegas NWR, New Mexico, November 2005.

This piece was inspired by my love and passion for nature. This image is comprised of 3 different photos I shot. The background is the Mountains in North Georgia. The hands are mine….. hubby helped with that photo :-)..... and a red-tailed hawk that I’ve used in other images in my portfolio. I’ve merged all 3 images and applied the Orton Effect in PS. / To Love Nature is to “Embrace” Her…..... Not destroy her!!

This is a collaboration of myself and the very talented photographer Kenneth Fugate. I approached Ken today when I saw his skyscape piece titled “Light”. I just thought it was stunning!! He agreed and sent me the photo. I’m VERY VERY PROUD of this piece. It was again inspired by the passion I have for birds of prey; they are just such magnificent birds to me!! This is a combination of two photos My red-tailed hawk and Kenneth Fugate’s skyscape This red-tailed hawk was in captivity due to a permanent injury. I’ve used PS to merge the two photos. The inspiration for this piece has come from a responsibility I feel I have … to HELP protect our beautiful resources in nature and my love for admiring and creating ART. I hope you like it Ken :-) I absolutely LOVE it!! / ; /

Images copyright ©John Ratcliffe– 2008. / Copying, displaying, manipulating or redistribution of any image from this portfolio without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited Another one of my dads shots….. he is proud of this one. Image quality is not the best… but here it is. Thought I’d throw in last minute…... Red-tailed hawks typically will not eat finch, as they are fast moving little critters, and are more agile then the bigger hawk…. I think the finch just doesn’t feel threatened here… or he is just stupid. he he Other shots of My dads photos here.
