a young adelie penguin spreads his wings to cool off a bit as he races about checking out how the other penguin colonies operate
Now available to view since given as card to brother-in-law’s girlfriend recently. Yes, this little bird is allowed to travel around the house wherever it wishes. On this occasion, it sat down in front of the cat and lifted his tail. Amazingly, the bird still lives!! I snapped this photo of a seagull being very immature, because it reminded me of immature bald eagles I used to see in BC, Canada. Several people have told me that the immature ones are the brown ones, that their head feathers become white later. Rrrriiiiiiiiiight. When they sit in a tree and try to drop sticks on people’s heads, then blow raspberries at anyone who chastizes them, THAT’s immature. Or if two eagles are sitting together laughing endlessly as they take turns making fart noises, THAT is immature. However, I believe that every one of those eagles would rather be pulled underwater by a fish, than be seen dressed like this immature seagull.
A funny cartoon with chicks.
While in Guelph, Ontario, / I saw this parrot and his owner sharing an ice cream cone. I asked if I could photograph the parrot.
I saw this cute little duck and just had to take a picture.

Ostrich (Struthio camelus) This Ostrich had looked round at me and if to say what !! Carn’t you see I’m eating…. lol (-: Description: Ostriches do not need to drink – they can make their own water internally and get the rest from vegetation. Meaning of scientific name / Camel-like. Subspecies / Four: North African, Somali, Masai, South African. Life span / 40 years. Statistics / 7ft (1.75-2.75m) tall, males up to 150kg, females 90-110kg, Stride length: 3-5m. Physical Description / Ostriches are the largest living birds, and are flightless, two-toed, with long, powerful neck and legs. Distribution / Originally, the ostrich occurred throughout Africa, except in evergreen forests and moist savannah. Their current distribution is Southern Africa. Habitat / Mainly open semi-arid savannahs in Southern Africa. Diet / Omnivorous, but mostly vegetarian. They eat roots, leaves, flowers and seeds of many plants. Most typical items include succulent plants. They may also eat occasional invertebrates and small lizards. Food collects in the crop then slides down the neck in a bolus. The ostrich has intestines 14m long so that it gets the most out of the tough plants it eats. They also swallow stones to help break down food in their gizzard, sometimes even diamonds! Behaviour / They have a very flexible social system, and sometimes live alone but more often in groups. Ostriches can be very aggressive if threatened. They use their powerful legs and pick-axe claws to kick/slash at attackers. They spend much of the day feeding. Many of their social interactions with each other include short fights – usually settled with hissing and posturing. It is a myth that ostriches bury their heads in the sand.

This young juvenile bluebird, one of several that came into the world during the 2008 breeding season, took a quick splash and then fluffed up in anticipation of yet another cooling dip in the birdbath below.

A flock of seagulls was crowding the parking lot at WalMart in Bayou Vista, Louisiana, on New Years’ Day; they must have been shopping for bargains. This baby gull posed so prettily for my camera!
This is what I meant by horning into the food by the Alpha pigeon. From straight on, they look a lot like fighters with their hands tied behind their backs, bumping each other sideways and trying to get “the front wing” in. But this time, BetaBird won by a wing and got to the prime spot first while also blocked his rival with a surprise “open wing tactic”! LOL!
Captured with the Panasonic TZ4, this is Alpha pigeon and the only one I could get to eat from my hand. But after I did all the prep work garnering his trust, he just snubbed me each time he say the red light come on the camera. :-O These suckers are SMART! No matter where I had the camera, if he could see it running, he wasn’t getting closer then 3 inches. The trip is that the light is on the BACK SIDE of the camera but nothing else changed when I was shooting video. Weirder, when shooting stills, he STILL seemed to know I was streaming shots even if my hand was in exactly the same position as before. If a bird can hear the sound of my camera’s shutter opening and closing over the sounds of traffic, planes, geese, kids playing, squirrels, ducks, etc., that’s a bird I want as a guide when I go deaf.
