A beautiful flamingo showing off his (unnatural-looking!) flexible neck. This was shot at an exposure of -2 against a shadowed background, which made the background appear black. This shot was taken in Homosassa Springs State Park, Florida. 100% of the profits from the sale of this print will be donated to the American Bird Conservancy.

This design is in honor of my flawless little brother, who, when he was 15, finally got into trouble because he and some friends went around stealing pink flamingos out of the neighbor’s yards. He got caught and I have never let him live it down. This is for you, Robbie!

When you feel alone or you’re hurting inside, look to the ray of hope, God created. He loves you, and cares for you always. He never changes, and nothing can separate us from His love, that is in Christ Jesus. This is a composite of the sky and the flamingo rendered in Photoshop. Flood ws added for the water effects. Sepia tone was also used for the overall coloring. Both images where processed in HDR prior to the creation of the composite. Hope you enjoy looking at it, as much as I enjoyed creating it. This was a photo I had taken three months ago. It just amazes me the grace and elegance of these beautiful Flamingos. Their coloring is just breathtaking. This was an earlier piece I uploaded and now reworked . I’ve taken and altered this photo with the Orton Layered Effect. Just a little info: / Young flamingos hatch with grey plumage, but the feathers of an adult range from light pink to bright red due to the bacteria in the water they inhabit and the pigments obtained from their food supply. A flamingo that is well-fed and healthy is vibrantly coloured bright pink and is more desirable as a mate. A white or pale flamingo, however, is usually unhealthy or suffering from a lack of food. Notable exceptions are the flamingos in captivity, many of which turn a pale pink as they are not fed foods containing sufficient amounts of carotene. This is changing as more zoos begin to add shrimp and other supplements to the diets of their flamingos. In summary, flamingos obtain their color from a beta carotene diet.

The hazy morning light through the humid Hong Kong air warmed and illuminated these Flamingos in Kowloon Park. / / While photographing these magnificent birds I was able to observe some of their social behavior. While they may look like graceful creatures they have definite social standings and spend a lot of their time squabbling amongst themselves over nothing. Pretty much like people really.
