They visit us daily, and follow me along the trail whenever I go for a walk. I could be 3 property lines over and they will still follow me! It is not unusual for them to land on the end of my camera lens as I’m trying to frame a photo, or flutter around my legs, looking for their sunflower seeds. These little songbirds bring me more joy than I can ever truly express. What a gift they are! I would be filled with great sadness if they ever disappeared. They are a huge part of my passion for nature & wildlife photography and for capturing the beauty that surrounds us everywhere. This image was created by merging 2 of my chickadee in flight photos and then blending the sky together. After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. Featured in – The Birds, February 7, 2009 I can’t help but dream of summer, and much warmer temperatures, when I look at this image. This piece consists of 6 layers (the background, 5 different layers of pretty lavender blooms, and an adorable little american goldfinch). After merging all of the layers in PhotoShop I digitally painted the entire piece in Corel Painter X.
