I took this photo of a birch tree with a knot in it that looks like an eye. When I cropped then mirrored the image, and put them together, this is what resulted. There are two separate faces- one in each tree, facing one another, but when you view the picture as a whole, there’s another face- looking forward, composed of both eyes and a heart in the center that doubles as a mouth and a nose. At least that’s how I see it. Hence the title: Natural Love.

This is a shot taken at Stan Heywet and it is a beautiful path of birch trees / Stan Heywet was a mansion owned by a extremely rich family back in the 1800’s. / It was converted into a museum which has acres of gardens for sight seeing. / You can do tours of the mansion and the garden. It has literally acres of gardens and walkways. A late afternoon scene in the Washington Arboretum (Seattle) in October with the white trunks of the birches reflecting brightly among the golden foliage. Canon D60.

November can generally be a dull month but in this grove of “Spirit Birch” near the shore of Lake Superior at Duluth, Minnesota, the forest was alive with songs and whispers on a snowless Thanksgiving Day. Printed, double matted and framed, this is a very compelling image.

A good snowfall reduces noise and cleans the ground of debris left by mankind. For this walk, I borrowed my husband’s 18-70mm 3.5-4.5G ED DX lens, used my monopod as a trekking pole and headed out with the dogs. Even they were quiet among the trees. Such peace. Birch fences are part of my youth where I was living,at that time my mother was in chock seeing sheeps or cows in our vegetables garden and we could see hay bundles sleeping on the field.Of course I knew that if I followed the birch fence I would find the first blueberries for the love of my life,my father…a ritual I did for most of my youth.At first I only had a few bleuberries but what a treat I had looking to my father eating the first handful of those tasty wild berries.I was so proud and happy…. :)) / Taken with a D200 Nikon /

This oil painting was inspired by traveling in Portland, Oregon last Christmas during the worst white out in 40 years. The awesome quite and stillness of winter with it’s snow blanket drifitng in the breeze and the nightly shawdows on the water invites mystery and quiet contemplation.

This image was taken on a horrible wet and windy grey day in the Lake District. A long shutter speed has captured the movement in the branches and create a smooth texture to the water.

I was off to take some photographs of some waterfalls in the Breacon Beacons in Wales when I almost missed this scene. Had there not been a break in the cloud I may have missed it. It was probably the best drive by shooting photograph I have to date. I’ve had a little play in photoshop and thought I’d post the results. / The original was shot using a Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 27mm, f/8, 1/60 sec, ISO 400. No filters used and mounted on the car door. I then upped the exposure in photoshop with a layered PS approach and added some crows for effect. I hope you like it. © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.
