For anyone who hadn’t noticed, I added this info to my gallery homepage to tell a bit about my cats that I photograph the most; Bonnie, Kirara and Clover, all 3 are mine : ) Bonnie is an all white long haired female cat. She, like most white cats is deaf, but she is very attentive to detail. She LOVES to chase light, reflections..even her own shadow!!She is VERY silly, but so lovable! Bonnie can be somewhat of a drama queen, she does not get along with most cats, she loves her own space and hisses if another cat comes her way.She loves attention and loves to play. Her favorite places to sleep include the top of the couch, in boxes, and anywhere beside me : ) / I adopted her in July 2007, she was already two years old then. Kirara is a short haired calico female cat. Her name is pronounced “Kilala,” she is named after a cute little two tailed cat on one of my favorite animes, “Inuyasha.” She is very small for her age, she is 3 years old. / Kirara is a sweet cat, she can be shy and kind of a loner at times. She loves to sleep in my room on my bed, she is almost always there! / Her birthday is Sept 28th, I’ve had her since she was born :D Clover is my oldest cat, he just turned 4 years old on Sept 11th(‘08).He has long silver and white fur.He is a total momma’s boy, he follows me everywhere and cries whenever he wants something (and believe me, he ALWAYS gets it!! I can’t say no to him, lol). He is very specific on how he wants his food, his dish always has to be full or he will cry…yes, he is very picky! / Kirara is Clover’s little sister, he loves her very much…always cleaning her and looking out for her : ) / His favorite places to sleep are on shoes and on my legs! :p Thanks for viewing friends!! :D

The Eden Project

For all of those of you who can get to Cornwall, or perhaps are already there, I totally recommend this here Eden Project gubbins, it’s the largest biome in the world apparently, and asides from wandering the domes, through African, Malaysian, South American climates and on to the Mediterranean, even the shop reveals mad delights. Pencils made from old CD cases, or car parts, bags made from sweet packets, mousemats from circuit boards (they were fantastic) and, um, cacti. Which I think had always been cacti. They also had this W.E.E.E. chap, (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) 3.3 tonnes of things incredibly well designed to be obsolete soon enough, apparently that’s what an average human throws out in a year. He was massive and his teeth were made from old computer mice. The gardens had hundreds of secret pathways leading to sandpits and restaurants and sculptures, which was quite fun, but wandering through banana groves, cashew nut trees, swamps, 60m palms, waterfalls and horseradish trees in the humidity of the dome, without really being too aware of the covering was the best. I mean, you can look up and go ‘Oh no way, I am not in the Brazillian rainforest, I am at the bottom end of England in a massive greenhouse.’ but you’re only spoiling your own fun. The food available was equally superb. I actually half went to see The Raconteurs, who were playing at The Eden Sessions that happen every year. Yes, I know they aren’t as good as The White Stripes, whom I’m slightly obsessive over, but their albums are 50/50 and you have to see a band before you can write them off completely. As it happens it all looked so damn cool everywhere, I could barely focus on the gig. But for those of you who were appalled at their second album, well, it makes a bit more sense live. Anyway, this isn’t a story, and it doesn’t have a point, but if you happen to be anywhere near the south west of England, pop in, get yourself a biro that used to be a Playstation.

You’re looking at my pink Bo-Ho girl…I enjoyed representing this little new aged traveller in an Art Nouveau styling, as the free thinking girls from the 19th century were represented in this genre, so, i wanted to try and bring the style forward to express one of todays free spirits – and it was a joy to paint…hope it brings a smile to your face…:) Acrylic & Enamel painting by Kate :) Image copyright © 2004, klb – of elegantsavage. This is my artwork entry for the ‘Freedom To Create Prize’. It is very complex in the multi-issue nature of the messages it is meant to portray. What may appear as separate issues are really a part of a larger single issue showing how the individual issues are inseparable from one another. The artwork addresses the following individual issues as a whole… / / 1.) Feeding the population of the Earth, and not just the hungry or starving. / / 2.) The great public misconception that biomass fuels, such as ethanol, are really a ‘green’ alternative technology, when in fact, they are not a viable and sustainable alternative energy source, as they create exponentially many more energy, environmental, and human rights issues than they resolve. / / 3.) The ongoing loss and abuse of the very few fertile soils that exist on Earth due to the accepted agricultural practices we continue to use in how we grow food. Please take the time to read the article that I have written that accompanies this artwork at the link shown below. It will give you a basic primer as to why these issues are inseparable. I believe that once you see the bigger picture emerge you will never see the smaller issues that it involves in the same light again. / / Food… Not Fuel by Art4Earth / http://www.redbubble.com/people/art4earth/writing/1681231-food-not-fuel / / All my own proceeds on the sale of this artwork are being donated to the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization, as this is the only organization I am aware of that provides an agricultural assistance program combined with food relief programs to help feed the world’s hungry and starving. / / United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization / www.fao.org/ / / Oh !... Details about the creation of the artwork. / The backdrop was rendered in Terragen. The terrain file in Terragen was sculpted by myself by digitally hand-painting a greyscale heightfield map in Photoshop, and then importing the bitmap file version into Terragen. The multitude of other environmental files used in Terragen were also created myself. The gas pump was created from a photo I took myself. The starving child was created from a PD image from the web. The pump and child shadows were drawn in Photoshop. All of these separate components were than composited, painted, and re-touched in Photoshop. Thanks for the visit, and please read the associated article. Peace & Love, / / Art 4 EartH

Basically, this is a self portrait I painted by covering a board in the last of my paints one day and quickly adding lights and darks before it all dried. Just an experiment. When it did dry, i scratched in a poem. ‘I want to dedicate these brown eyes to her husband, the fear me father. / His eyes always quick to judge, / that look down at the daughter who’ll never meet his expectations, / even if she wanted to. / I want to dedicate these rough sketches to his wife, the quitter. / Who’s a better spender and cleaner / than a mother. / I want to dedicate thse bitten nails and scarred wrists to the boys gone by / with warm hands and tilting eyes / who seemed so worth it / for too long. / I want to dedicate these smiles to the girls / with hair / twisted around their fingers. / I want to dedicate every heartbeat to the boy with his head on my pillow / sleeping beside me / who walks in the rain / and kisses my cheek. / I want to dedicate these journal entries to everyone who didnt know me. / And I want to dedicate these secrets and thoughts to anyone who thinks that they do.

For once I am left without an idea for a title. That should say a lot, although I am unable to type any of it.

Another shot from my trip down south. East Sussex is awash with alternative lifestyle products and services. This shop in Lewes offers ‘Ceremonies For All Life Events’, e.g. ‘Baby Naming’, ‘Weddings’ and ‘Funerals’. The guy walks by without noticing the ornate bio-degradable coffin in the window, or perhaps he ‘chooses’ not to notice? A book in the window is called ‘The Natural Death Handbook’, just right for your next birthday present! The only way to go in the future perhaps?
