Irony…

The recent political events in this country have created a tidal wave of hope and optimism in the minds of those of us who dream of a more perfect world where hate, bigotry and the senseless acts of social, racial and political violence are replaced by tolerance, peace and justice.

When confronted with their bigotry, making unpleasantly sterotypical remarks on people from some “looked down on” group – or discriminating people on that basis – lots of people tend to answer with: You are wrong, some of my best friends are… (Jews, blacks, homos, whatever). Well, then I pity their best friends. A few years ago we were actually discriminated against by some hotel manager in Spain on the basis of sexual orientation. He was really surprised to hear that he was discriminating (and not just following stupid, rigid rules). He used the above-written sentence, and we wondered if his friend(s) would have approved of his treatment of us… “Some of my best friends are… (Homos, Jews, Marsians, etc.)” was featured in the groups / ART ACTION UNION – CREATIVE ACTIVISM / Fabulous T’s and / Outsiders / /

The “I” within each of us connects to the greater of each – the “We.” The purpose for this piece was to honor and embrace, specifically, diversity between being “black” or “white” in America, but in an abstract way where the “I” of black and white merges into the “We” of gray… Through other sites where this piece has been sold, I’ve been told it works on many levels – - -Race, Religions, Gender… these are issues of the physical and material world… insignificant “stuff” as we move further along in our evolution. Historically, the world of bigotry and hate knows no boundaries but it is smaller today and the messages of modern day sages, the likes of Anwar Sadat, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr and even John Lennon are alive, more than ever. They conferred with the wisest, who lived on where there is no space and time… No matter where we live, who we are, the color of our skin, our religion and particular “isms”, our gender… embrace the “we” that IS in you… Physically, there is no “I” in being “humans who love and accept everyone.” It is the fool who will allow any religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and the like to separate us from our true selves… life insists we not just see the extremes of black and white, but that we recognize the grays made from cosmic, collective consciousness. Without having embraced the “we…” one rarely arrives to “I am…”
Well, Australia Day is coming up and so this is my contribution. It’s day’s like this when all the loud mouthed drunken bigots of the country drape them selves in the Australian flag, spout pearls of wisdom like, “It’s all about celebrating Australian kulcha”, while staggering around with a can of beer in their hand till they trip over their own thongs and landing in a pool of their own (or friends) vomit. What they are actually celebrating is a culture that spans the entire globe. This is the culture of the mindless. It has the following characteristics and is the same in every country in the world (except in fundamentalist countries where alcohol is banned and religion is the drug of choice): / 1. Reliance on alcohol to have “fun”. / 2. Concept of “fun” includes violence. / 3. Gross disrespect for anything or anyone that displays the slightest bit of intellect, minorities, women, and anyone who operates at a higher level of ethical reasoning than themselves (not hard), such as civil libertarians, equalitists, human rights activists, environmentalists or vegetarians. / 4. Contempt, mockery, and aggressive belligerence towards anyone that they perceive of as “different”. / 5. Use of patriotism to mask their anti-social attitudes of racism and fascist levels of belief in conformity. / 6. Inability to form complex sentences with a heavy reliance on colloquial language uttered in an exaggerated and loud voice. / 7. Inability to cognitively process complex subject matter in conversation and so focus on simplistic subject matter such as sex, bodily functions, sports, killing animals and reinforcing bigoted attitudes. Express these concepts in loud exaggerated voices in an attempt to create the illusion that they bear more content and validity than what they actually do. / 8. Inability to cognitively process complex concepts in their daily life and so focus on sex, bodily functions, sports, killing animals and reinforcing bigoted attitudes.

We come in all colors of the rainbow, all different yet ALL fellow human beings. We all belong to different groups on basis of gender, skin color, sexual orientation, social class, beliefs, disorders… you name it. Yet we are all individuals who should be taken on the individual basis of our own personalities and what we have to offer and are willing to give others and the world. Don’t let the color of skin, the accent, the gender or sexual orientation of anyone be in the way of getting to know that person, maybe getting to love her or him, but first of all – show RESPECT! “We come in all colors” was featured in the groups / WTF are you wearing?! / ART ACTION UNION – CREATIVE ACTIVISM / True Potential and / ! # 1 ARTISTS OF REDBUBBLE !
