  • Sometimes the sky lights up in ways you least expect. As was the case on this morning. When I got there, the clouds seemed to be everywhere, and the worst place to have them for sunrise or sunset is on the horizon; and there was plenty on the horizon. But as I waited, the clouds slowly thinned and drifted, moving further away from the horizon at a fast rate of knots. The result was a spectacular and bright pre-sunrise lightshow.

  • The rain had cleared, the sun was shining on the wet sand dunes, the spray was rising in the distance as the two riders on horseback, now a tiny speck, were fading into the far distance. The Stockton Bight sand dunes cover an area of over 2,500 hectares along a 32 kilometre stretch of beach. This is a very popular tourist destination with organised 4WD tours leaving constantly to view the dunes, travel the beaches, see the old tin city, the World WarII tank traps and view the wreck of the Signa. The traditional owners of the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes are the Worimi people with strong aboriginal ties to the area. A definite “must see” if you are in the area. / /
