According to the Mediterranean Wildlife guide this species is called ‘Argiope bruennichi’. Female body length up to 20mm, one of the bigger arachnids. We find those in our orange trees. They are usually seen around june till september/october and are widespread.

I found out recently that farmers don’t plant the same crops every year so the fields of last years sunflower crops are now soy so I was a bummed but my bro inlaw called and told me where to find more so here are a few shots of this years crop :) Shot with the Nikon d-90 and the nikkor 18-105mm lens on a bogen manfrotto tripod using a handheld remote in Camillus NY this is a 3 shot bracket tonemapped in photomatrix Please full view for max effect
