  • It’s not everyday you get to see a species known for its ferocity, showing tenderness instead. These are two Lion brothers (captivity) who had spent most of the morning playfully teasing each other before they sat down to…well….no other word for it – “cuddle”. This was the only shot I got that worked as they were partially obscured by a toy in their enclosure. On review I was very lucky, not only was there a beautiful symmetry in the lions’ head positions, but both eyes were closed in the ‘moment’ as well. The image has been edited for a more dramatic effect and to perfectly isolate the two animals and their experience. • This was a great find! Two different species of fungus growing snugly side by side at the bottom of a moss covered fallen log. The little trio are Mycena leaiana and their big brother is a Suillus granulatus, both species being native Aussie fungi . The photograph was made in an old pine plantation in off the Maxwell Flat Road in the Cottan-Bimbang# National Park , between Gingers Creek and Wauchope , NSW, Australia, early on an autumn day. I was on a day trip with a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friend who knows the area well and we both spent a good four hours in this plantation photographing the many different varieties of fungi that were on show in some wonderful forest light. #Cottan-Bimbang is the local Aboriginal name for the Linospadix monostachya (Walking Stick Palms) which are very prominent in the area Fuji S9600: RAW, Macro, Manual Priority, Manual focus, f/8 @ 0.77sec, ISO80, Tripod, Timer, Low powered flash. / S7RAW & Photoshop CS. • This is a picture of my oldest and youngest child. We were in the yard one day and they were playing with coconuts. I love candid shots, so I was in the distance snapping pictures. Out of the blue, he bent down and kissed her on the head. It was the cutest thing and such a rare occurance now that he has reached that pre-teen stage in life. Featured on homepage. • Are multiple overlapping CCTV Cameras getting you down? Does the thought of not just stereo 3-D capture of you walking down a perfectly normal street in daylight, but three if not more multiple freaking angles increasingly annoy you? Are you willing to let even more civil liberties slide by? Damnit, just swallow this capsule and let yourself be microchipped already. It’ll solve a lot of problems, and if nothing else a lot of people who are paid to monitor the things will be able to get some sunlight again. Remember : if you have nothing to hide, what are you afraid of?

  • WILD AND FREE / / Two cheetah cub brothers sitting on a termite mound. Taken early one morning about half an hour after sunrise. (Masai Mara – Kenya) / / The world’s fastest land animal, the cheetah, is a unique and the most specialized member of the cat family and can reach speeds of 70 mph. Unlike other cats, the cheetah has a leaner body, longer legs, and has been referred to as the greyhound of the cats. It is not an aggressive animal, using flight versus fight. With its weak jaws and small teeth, the price it paid for speed, it cannot fight larger predators to protect its kill or young. The cheetah was once a common animal found on five continents, but is slowly losing its race for survival and is now classed as an Endangered Species! • My entry for the London Calling challenge. I found this difficult as I’ve never been to London to get a real ‘feel’ for the place, but here’s my two-cents worth: I have given a big nod towards graffiti/street art with the general style of the piece (line work, spray marks and drips) the London skyline gets a look in I couldn’t resist the CCTV camera robot (paranoid android?) with London having over 100 000 cameras throughout the city and finally I’ve included a large rain cloud in reference to the grey, overcast and generally miserable weather. I can’t decide on a colour – according to the challenge we should have one colour option for the shirt – so feel free to let me know what colour you think works best :) Detail: /

  • Oil on Canvas size 75×55cm. These boys, belonging to the Surma Tribe, live in a remote village in south eastern Ethiopia. The tribe is famous for their ferocious stick fighting resulting in many scars! This painting was exhibited at the Noosa Regional Gallery, Sunshine Coast, Australia….part of an exhibition titled ‘Africa – Face to Face’ which featured my paintings along with photographs by my friend Bob Nelson.

  • Charcoal drawing on news paper. Inspired by the way the media manipulates us! I hate the way the media tells us what they think we should hear rather than letting us work it out for ourselves. This ghostly form represents the way I feel about the media. Big brother is ever watchful! / / featured in THE TORCH / featured in Works on Paper / featured in Outsiders

  • Not my usual subject matter. The inspiration for “Big Brother is Plugged In” came to me during a trip to a suburban area in Texas. I was surprised at the number of cameras. At least one on every street corner! Scary! / The outer eye is actually a fractal created in Apophysis 2.08. The Eye was created in Poser 6, the Sky and Ground created in Vue 7 esprit. Post work in Photoshop 2009 The reflection in the eye is of a man in his bathrobe walking out to get the morning paper.
