On a holiday to Vermont we had a wander into the local town and on the way found this beautifully old looking bike that wust screamed “photograph me”! So we did!
The shadow reveals the whole picture, yet the eye only sees a hint…

We had another awesome sunset and I rode my bicycle as fast as I could to get a shot. I missed the peak but still love the silhouette I got of my cruiser. /
Campagnolo Chorus components, Fuji Team SL frame, Velocity Deep V wheels and Continental 4000 tires / Representing Italy, Japan, Australia and Germany;) Hard to tell this bike has more than 20,000 miles on it.

Spread the word – cyclists are sexy!
I shot this about ten days ago, when I was hurrying down Flinders Street. Right opposite the station, I saw a couple in deep discussion, standing near a cycle leaning against a pole. The sunlight was very strong even though it was the last few days of autumn (yes, we’re in winter here!) and I really wanted a shot of the shadow cast by the cycle. However, I did not want the couple to think I was photographing them or trying to eavesdrop on their conversation. Accordingly, I walked briskly past them, took several paces, then turned as quickly as I could, rapidly framed the shot and then kept going. I felt like I was one of those participants in an ancient duel – march ten paces, then turn, take aim and hit the trigger! It was only when I got home and looked at the result on the computer screen that I realised how sharp the shadow was. There’s another factor. The footpath was crowded with pedestrians, yet not one of them actually intruded on the shot. Just how lucky can you get? I do not crop or post-edit my work in any way. I shot this with a Pentax K100D and a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F8, 1/125 sec, ISO 200, focal length of 98mm.
A shot from Vieanna – Autria. This on also was awarded Honorable Mention from IPA in 2007.

Amsterdam, November 21, 2009 / My candid street shot of today… :D Oooooh, so typical Dutch that I even cannot translate it into English LOL … / ‘bakfiets’ – a bycicle on three wheels with a ‘box’ in front, often used in the Netherlands to transport children, grocery shoppings, and a lot of other stuff. / And ‘oliebollen’, a typical Dutch treat, especially in wintertime: a dough shaped into a ball and fried in oil… No ‘Old years eve’ without ‘oliebollen’ :D . / So the ‘oliebollenkraam’ is the stand where the ‘oliebollen’, waffles and some similar treats, are sold… Indeed: with the ‘bakfiets’ to the ‘oliebollenkraam’ ... so typical Dutch that I can’t translate LOL… So… then just to make sure… the dictionary: / ‘bakfiets’: carrier cycle / ‘oliebol’: (no translation [giggle-shrug] ) / Edited (Nov 22, 2009): Aaah, but the Canadian family of Johan (photowalker) Nijenhuis do have a good English translation for it! : ‘oil domplings’ – Thanks Johan! That captures it well! LOL Photograph made with Pentax K10D camera and Pentax 18-55 lens Features and top10 placements / Featured in #1 artists of redbubble (Nov. 23, 2009) / Featured in the Dutch connection (Nov. 23, 2009) / Thank you to the hosts of these marvellous groups! / Comments and feed-back always welcome.
