If you’re looking for some fun or a catalyst for your creative juices, why not try your hand at the various challenges on the site: Self-portrait Rubber duck Spin Journey Shadow Bicycle, Fire + Honesty There’s also a very active thread on Where is everyone from? that’s well worth checking out and adding to (if you haven’t already). Thanks to Dennis Klau and others for organising these sometimes wacky but always fun activities. Got an idea for a challenge of your own? Just go for it! Ok… so this is the story… On friday night I had my wheels stolen off my bike at uni. True, this is an unusual topic to bring up at RB. I just wanted to share my outrage with the RB community (and me feeling comfortable to share reflects positively on the RB comnunity I feel). Nevertheless, the point is… someone stole my wheels, my very useful, fun and ecologically sustainable wheels! Oh… and without my wheels, it’s much more difficult getting to places that I’d like to photograph. I’m outraged!

it’s all over now. brilliant. the films were awe inspiring and even though the only filming I’v ever done was pavements of Morocco (i’d just bought a hand held video thingy-ma-jig and never read instructions so got lots of footage of feet, footpaths, insides of cars, bags & blackness but jeez it was funny!) i feel like going out and making an Australian bike film. I met some wonderful characters over the week of exhibitions, parties and showings. Hope to stay friends with them. In fact going for a “night klunk” with Adam, a champion “trials” cyclist who does amazing feats of balance and jumping on a bike with no seat, it’s all done on stairs, platforms, rocks…whatever they can hurl off and onto whilst balancing. incredible. / so, tomorrow night we’re going to go Mountain biking in the bush in the dark with lights on, of course. The opening party was at Deus ex machina and was uber cool. Met Dare Jennings there, i used to serve him coffee at the Lamrock cafe 18 years ago. He’s going to meet with us and talk over our cycling brand, maybe give us some advice. They screened some of the shorter films on a huge white warehouse wall on Parramatta Rd. we sat on big old metal shipping containers, cars and window sills of the shop and watched films on this road with traffic going past…..watching these awesome films about cycling. One about couriers in New York was vomit inducing, the camera was on the head of the director while he cycled behind these guys dodging buses, cars, trucks….sometimes being hit, falling, skidding…so many near misses. it’s like being in a 3d cinema and you know how you get nauseus with all the fast movement & swerving and your body sways as though you’re there??? And you gasp as it feels like YOU are on that bike? Got an adventure race coming up in a couple of weeks so have been running, paddling, swimming and M. biking. This morning we ran soft sand and had a swim down at Manly. Water felt great on aching body. Work: finished large canvas “Sunshine Beach” and went and spoke to a clent about a commission from her house yesterday, will sketch it up this morning and send thru scan. Will stretch up some canvases today and maybe start another work, a painting of the view from The Bible Garden at Palm Beach. It’s a stunning view. have been working in bits and pieces on new Doily Couture website. I’ve sketched up a little shop and we’ve been putting little handpainted manequins with photos of clothing onto them into my make-believe shop in photoshop. Cute and girly. i only have another couple of months to paint and it’s very relaxing compared to the fashion design, i knock off earlier each night. It’s funny, i never mind sewing way into the late hours but painting i need to concentrate much more and be in the mood for.

Tuesday the 16th of December there is a rally in front of the Melbourne Town Hall to call for a bike, pedestrian and tram-friendly Swanston St. The rally is timed to coincide with the new Melbourne Council’s first meeting, and aims to send a strong message that Doyle’s plan to bring cars back to Swanston St is not supported. Those who are especially keen can stick around after the rally to watch the council meeting. The rally will be addressed by the husband of the cyclist killed earlier this year in Swanston St. There are lots of ways in which this event could be interesting for RedBubblers in Melbourne. 1- if you’re interested in sustainable transport options / 2 – as an inspirational event for artists and writers of all types. For photographers it’s obviously an event made in heaven, but I think it must also be inspiring for artists in other mediums. A massed crowd scene like this must provide some quality material for us all, including the writers – so much emotion and drama in one small area. T-shirt makers can have a field day and film makers too. Can you afford not to be there? .

back late last night from beautiful Adelaide. Stunning – we did the Mutual Challenge bike ride along with 7,130 other cyclists and it was like riding thru Tuscany – only much browner. The country side hasn’t had much rain obviously but it still took my breathe away…or maybe that was the hills? We cycled 170kms altogether and it was a really lovely day . It was amazing to see the vineyards with what looked like villas and chateaus on hillsides….with rows of pencil pines or palms lining roadways to grand estates. / We watched the Tour Down Under race and every time we saw Lance Armstrong i had goosebumps all over. It wasn’t just me – everyone around me got them too. At a dinner one night he spoke and there were videos played – of Lance in action and he is such a charismatic, incredible man. He too is breathetakingly gorgeous. The cheekbones are chiselled. When he cycles the power is so evident. It made all of us mere mortals feel positively puny and weak minded. / We met and gave a pile of our Apres Velo tees to some of our heroes of the sport and it was very rewarding to see them happy to accept them. We saw them being worn by the general public and it was a real buzz. We even got one to Lance’s mechanic and we’re hoping he gets & wears it. Fingers crossed. / Now, i’ve got a whole heap of design & Artwork to do for some Apres Velo cycling jerseys and then as soon as that is done it’s back to painting. / I’m training for a 24hour mountain bike race next – with a team of 6 men from Nobmob. Our unfortunate team name is the BIG TEST ICICLES. They entered that name before they signed me up. / THEN i’ve entered a 100km mountain bike race called Dirtworks up at Wiseman’s Ferry way (St. Albans). I hope to keep all my current skin intact. My goal for the next 4-5 months is to try and stay upright on my mountain bike – not upside down with feet still in pedals as i’m wont to do.

I’m still working on jerseys for Apres Velo -have finished my summer 09/10 range of tee designs and i love them. I have sketch books full of ideas that haven’t been painted up yet. / bad weather has prohibited me from getting on the bikes – but tomorrow night i’m off for a night ride on the Mountain Bike on the same trail i had my big accidnet on 2 weeks ago. Then a big ride planned for the weekend with my team The Big Test Icicles. / Training for the Mont 24hour MTB race in April and then the 100km Dirtworks. My main goal is to finish with all skin intact and no more bones than i have now. I would also like to not test my helmet out again. It has passed, thanks. / My studio is a mess, we’re renovating our house and there is a lot of STUFF in here that makes me feel very cramped but it will be worth it all in the long run. / I go to see a man about a commission tomorrow – haven’t painted for so long now and still have another few weeks of cycle artwork to do. It will be good for me to get back to the canvas.

Last saturday the Kraftwerktrophy 2009 was staged in Vienna – a 12h bicycle race for solo riders and 3-man teams. My personal goal was to hit the 300km mark which i reached – I cycled 325km. actually i could have cycled more, but after 240km I became a bit lazy… The event itself was amazing – perfectly organized, perfect weather, not too hot, sun all day but a bit too much wind. With Jure Robic (4 times Race Across America winner), probably the best Ultra-Cyclist in the world at the moment, the event also had a very prominent starter and a well deserved winner. / Jure, who took the Kraftwerktrophy as a good training unit for the RAAM which is starting in 3 weeks, cycled some amazing 498km and was oly beat by a 3-man team, which cycled 504km, one round more than Jure. / all other teams, and of course solo starters, finished behind Jure Robic – simply amazing… For me personally, the race started pretty badly – I went to the start-line and saw that my rear tyre was punctured. not a good start with 5minutes to the actual start. / so i went to the official race mechanic, and Robert (thanks again, even though you won’t read it here), fixed my tyre in an astounding sub-4-minutes. / the start flag was just lifted when I jumped over the fences and hit the road with only 200m behind the big peleton. the rest of the race went pretty well – the first 240km were amazingly easy and i was very positive on going more than 300km. then, however, i started to get cramps in my left leg and i had to take it a bit easy. another problem was that i was there alone, so i dind’t have anybody to hand my fresh water bottles or anything to eat. / so i had to get off the bike myself, which also meant that i was losing the group i was cycling in… with 75 minutes still to go, i had cycled 293km and i knew that the 300km wouldn’t be a problem. at the finish line my odometer showed 327,8km, the official report states 324,8km. it was a fantastic weekend and a perfect event – looking forward to my next 12h race in 2 1/2 weeks, this time in Salzburg on the Salzburgring.

wow what a month – we have so many beautiful days, very hot and not a lot of rain – our garden is brown as opposed to the green of last year! We had no internet/phone last week – yet again so we decided a fter a family “do” to spend a couple of days away from home and the stress of not having internet (very hard when Hubby is “trying” to make a living using internet – how many web designers don’t have access eh!) so a couple of days out was pretty much needed!! We now have internet and that has enabled me to catch up on my hosting duties – I apologise to the groups that I host for not being able to display the new images of the week last week…also a big thank you to my co-hosts for their support :)) So it was with great pleasure I found that I had some features and a couple of top tens :) big smiles all round!! the most recent first…. Ron Mueck’s work is always show-stopping, and trying to capture it in a way that’s a little different was my aim. I used a handmade lens that Scott built for me, using the instructions that Matt supplied in his journal. Unfortunately the bendy boots we sourced were not quite the same size as the originals I’d received from Ran, so we have been trying to find a new way to hold the loupe in place. My temporary solution is to use duct tape, but Matt has come up with a couple of other suggestions to try. Hopefully we’ll get it working soon. Here’s another one I shot, which I’m quite happy with, cos Ginge HATES having her photo taken :) / Of course the biggest problem is finding bendy material that will do the job…no one makes bicycle fork rubbers anymore….another challenge for me :) You should have seen the security guards face when I asked if I could shoot The Stags and then showed him the lens…
