  • Intercessory Prayer
    by Ruth Palmer

    US$4.13–US$110.20

Taken from my blog: I was going through some paintings in my studio and stumbled upon this one that I had done some time ago. I had initially put it aside calling it a “WIP” and had fully intended to go back and do more work on it but never did. I’d shown it as a WIP to some arteeeest friends who had liked it very much “as is” and then just rolled it up and forgot about it. It’s huge…not exactly sure off hand how large but it’s on unstretched canvas….I’d say about 4ft X 5ft. What this piece represents is (and I remember painting it during one of those dry spiritual periods when I was trying desperately to pray but just couldn’t find the words) our prayers, which are sometimes nothing more than moans and groans….but are interpreted for us by the Holy Spirit giving us a direct and uninterrupted line to our Father. This happens often during our times of spiritual emptiness when we are reaching out to God and the words just don’t come. For those of you who are Christians, you will know this scripture from the Bible: Romans 8:26 (New International Version) “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” Anyway, when I pulled the painting out this morning, I decided that just as Jesus said on the cross, “it is finished”.....and would like to share it with you all. Never stop talking to God, He always hears….even the moans and groans! Be Blessed. /

It was taken in the Springtime. I combiined the original image with one of my hawk images. Merged the two in Photoshop CS3 then added the Orton effect for the final results. Digitaly enhanced art. The Huntington’s superb botanical gardens cover 120 acres (485,624 m²) and the theme gardens contain rare plants from around the world. The gardens are divided into more than a dozen themes, including the Australian Garden, Camellia Collection, Children’s Garden, Desert Garden Conservatory, Conservatory for Botanical Science, Desert Garden, Herb Garden, Japanese Garden, Lily Pond, North Vista, Palm Garden, Rose Garden, Shakespeare garden, Subtropical and Jungle Garden and a Chinese Garden (Liu Fang Yuan 流芳園 or the Garden of Flowing Fragrance) now open in the northern end of the property. In addition, a large open field planted with Eucalyptus trees serves as a re-created “Australian Outback.” The Huntington has a program to protect and propagate endangered plant species. In 1999 and 2002, a specimen of Amorphophallus titanum, or “corpse flower”, bloomed at the facility. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Huntington Library was named after its founder Henry E. • Signs Of The Times II
    by Ruth Palmer

    US$4.13–US$110.20

Acrylic on stretched canvas. Digitally altered.

  • / / / Christmas Rainbows Nativity is a mixed media production on brown paper / I used white acrylic gesso under, with a mix of chalk pastel, black marker and charcoal to create this little piece especially for Christmas 2008 You may notice that each character has a Heart… / Jesus’ heart is white – symbolic of his purity / Mary has a pink heart – symbolic of a mother’s gentleness and softness / Joseph’s heart is red – symbolic of father’s strength and reliability The idea of sending Rainbow Wishes for Christmas 2008 seemed appropriate in light of our global situation, the Rainbow stands for Hope or Promises made that they will be fulfilled…. I think we are all hoping for the fulfillment of the promises made to us by our governments, our leaders, our friends and family for PEACE and GOODWILL towards all men, regardless of race or creed….and not least of all God himself who spoke about rainbows being a sign of promise and hope, and also Jesus who’s birth it is we celebrate, mainly because of the hope his birth put in our hearts for true freedom from our chains (but if you are not a believer, the artwork still speaks of the promise of hope…..if not a believer in hope…then this one isn’t for you …but perhaps it will speak to someone’s heart and help spread a little hope for the future around )

  • And God created woman
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Ge 2:21: ¶ And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; / Ge 2:22: And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. / _____ Abstract art digital composite using my photographs. Photoshop CS3 and Micrografx edited. Those are not tatoos on her body, it is the leafy overlay from the garden photo I used. She has no tatoos. This is my daughter, Deborah. I gave her one of my favorite Biblical names. It turns out that I named her appropriately. She is a born again Christian. She loves the Lord with all her heart. She has had her share of hardships and heartaches growing up and also in her early youth, but she has overcome those things and come out with a glowing spirit. She and her husband are leaders in the community and their church. They have 3 wonderful children that would be a blessing to anyone. They are blessings to me. When I look at her, her eyes sparkle with a love of life and Jesus fills her very being. It radiates from her face. Her beauty makes mine pale by comparison. I am short and she is tall, something I have always longed to be. Her devotion to her family and God brings out her true spiritual beauty which enhances the physical beauty she has been blessed with. There is no vanity in her, but a humble gentle spirit that I love and admire. Born and raised in California, she has the beauty and glamour, the poise and confidence you would expect from a California girl. I am so proud to have her for my daughter. • Royal Rose
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Purple has quite a wonderful story associated with it. It has played a significant role in history and in culture. The color purple is associated with royalty, mystery, wisdom and magic. Purple is a general term for the range of shades of color occurring between red and blue. When the soldiers were crucifying Jesus, they put upon his head a crown of thorns and clad him in a purple robe (signifiying royalty). / Joh 19:2: And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, / Joh 19:3: And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands. Its found that purple is the most prefered color choice of all children. This color is rarely found in nature and is thought by some to be an artificial color. Light purple and dark purple have different meanings. While light purple gives off romantic feelings, a deep dark purple can create sadness. Purple robes are associated with royalty while the darkest purples are associated with funerals and death. Still a bright purple can reflect fun, playfulness and excitement to a child, while lavendar can give a feeling of calmness and peacefulness. Purple in its many tones can set the stage for many moods. Byzantine empresses gave birth in the Purple Chamber of the palace of the Byzantine Emperors. Therefore, being named Porphyrogenitus (“born to the purple”) marked a dynastic emperor as opposed to a general who won the throne by his effort. Alexander the Great (when giving imperial audiences as the emperor of the Macedonian Empire), the emperors of the Seleucid Empire, and the kings of Ptolemaic Egypt wore Tyrian purple. The imperial robes of Roman emperors were Tyrian purple trimmed in metallic gold thread. The badge of office of a Roman Senator was a stripe of Tyrian purple on their white toga.[6] Tyrian purple was continued in use by the emperors of the Eastern Roman Empire until its final collapse in 1453. Wikipedia Free Encylopedia There are many different shades of purple. Tyrian purple from which the name purple is derived, is the color of a dye made from a mollusk that, because of its incredible expense (many times more expensive than gold)[citation needed], in classical antiquity became a symbol of royalty because only the very wealthy could afford it. Therefore, Tyrian purple is also called imperial purple. Han purple is a type of artificial pigment found in China between 500 B.C. and 220 A.D.. It was used in the decoration of the Xian Terracotta Army. Han purple is a purple in the sense that the term is used in colloquial English, i.e., it is a color between red and blue; however, it is not a purple in the sense that the term is used in color theory, i.e. a non-spectral color between red and violet on the line of purples on the CIE chromaticity diagram. Royal purpleis bluer than the ancient Tyrian purple. In medieval Europe, blue dyes were rare and expensive,[7] so only the most wealthy or the aristocracy could afford to wear them. (The working class wore mainly green and brown.) Because of this (and also because Tyrian purple had gone out of use in western Europe after the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in AD 476), Europeans’ idea of purple shifted towards this more bluish purple known as royal purple because of its similarity to the royal blue worn by the aristocracy. This was the shade of purple worn by kings in medieval Europe. Artists pigment purple (red-violet). ‘Royal purple’ or the dark violet color known as vulgar purple is the common layman’s idea of purple, but professional artists, following Munsell color system (introduced in 1905 and widely accepted by 1930), regard purple as being synonymous with the red-violet color shown at right, in order to clearly distinguish purple from violet and thus have access to a larger palette of colors[citation needed]. This red-violet color, called artist’s purple by artists, is the pigment color that would be on a pigment color color wheel between pigment violet and pigment (process) magenta. In the Munsell color system, this color at the maximum chroma of 12 is called Red-Purple. Electric purple is precisely halfway between violet and magenta and thus fits the artistic definition of purple. Using additive colors such as those on computer screens, it is possible to create a much brighter purple than with pigments where the mixing subtracts frequencies from the component primary colors. The equivalent color on a computer to the pigment color red-violet shown above would be this electric purple, i.e. the much brighter purple you can see reproduced on the screen of an electronic computer. This color is pure purple conceived as computer artists conceive it, as the pure chroma on the computer screen color wheel halfway between electric violet and electric magenta. Thus, electric purple is the purest and brightest purple that it is possible to display on a computer screen. These are just a few examples of the color purple. • Safely in Heaven
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I received a wonderful email this morining containing this letter. This letter inspired this work of art titled “Safely in Heaven”: THIS IS THE EMAIL I RECEIVED: i DO NOT KNOW MEREDITH OR ABBEY, BUT THIS STORY IS BEAUTIFUL This is one of the kindest things I’ve ever experienced. I have no way of knowing who sent it, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office at the Post Office. Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words: Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her. Love, Meredith. We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had. Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, ‘To Meredith,’ in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, ‘When a Pet Dies.’ Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note: Dear Meredith, Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by. Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I’m easy to find, I am wherever there is love. Love, / God / ___ I personally believe all animals go to Heaven…. Re 5:9: And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; Re 5:12: Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. Re 5:13: And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. / ____ I created this work using a photo I had taken of my sister-in-law’s pet rottweiler named Lady. I used Photoshop CS3 to merge the images with an image a statue of Jesus from the Huntington Library and a picture of clouds from Arizona. Finally, I edited the image with Micrografx and finished the work. Digitally enhanced. Lady was such a gentle sweetheart. She became ill from lukemia and eventully succombed to her illness. The beautiful thing is that my nieces had already come to the Lord berore this. This incident brought us all closer when we were able to show our family scripture to support our belief’s about animals being created to live forever. Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. • The Bible
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

We found this beautiful old Holy Bible in a bookstore several years ago. It has some marvelous images and even the apocrypha. The other things in the picture are all Christian related. The book on the right has a picture representing Jesus Christ and a Wedding Invitation. Directly above The Bible is a statuary of the Last Supper. To the left is a plate with four cups representing communion, the sacrament which we do in memory of Christ. In this picture the four cups represent The Father, The Son, The Holy Ghost and the partaker. The Partaker of the sacrament is spiritually accepting the flesh and blood of Jesus as atonement for his sins. Directly to the right of the Last Supper is a Star of David representing the source of Salvation which has its roots in David and Judah. The image to the right and below the Star of David is a Sand dollar. The Sand Dollar has a marvelous legend that goes with it. It is said that Christ left the sand dollar as a symbol to help the evangelists teach the faith. The five holes commemorate the five wounds of Christ, while at the center on one side blooms the Easter lily, and at the lily’s heart the star of Bethlehem. The Christmas poinsettia is etched on the other side, a reminder of Christ’s birth. According to this legend, if you break the center five white doves will be released to spread good will and peace. The Legend of the Sand Dollar There’s a lovely little legend / That I would like to tell, / Of the birth and death of Jesus / Found in this lowly shell. If you examine closely / You’ll see that you find here, / Four nail holes and a fifth one / Made by a Roman’s spear. On one side the Easter Lily, / Its center is the star, / That appeared unto the shepherds / And led them from afar. The Christmas Poinsettia / Etched on the other side, / Reminds us of His birthday / Our happy Christmastide. Now break the center open / And here you will release, / The five white doves awaiting / To spread Good Will and Peace. This simple little symbol / Christ left for you and me, / To help us spread His Gospel / Through all Eternity (Author Unknown) Learn more here Photograph overlayed with Fractal art created with Apophysis.
