I chose to depict Jesus in this graphic manner without fleshtones in order to overthrow the stereotypical Jesus that is widely familiar to the public therefore taking a step toward making HIS image more inclusive to people of all cultural backgrounds. I do admit that HIS facial structure and wavy hair excludes the characteristics of many cultures.

I promised to share this with the “For The Love Of Jesus” group. / This painting was done in 2006. It’s nothing more than a preliminary scumble but this is how it happened and it is very special to me just the way it is (taken from the About.com forum posted in 2006).As most of you already know, my personal faith in the Lord Jesus is very strong.Yesterday, I ran down to gesso a canvas just before I had to go and pick up my children from school. I mixed some white gesso and burnt umber, painted the background, and all of a sudden the overwhelming urge came over me to paint My Saviour, My Friend. I grabbed a dry brush and scumbled this painting. It’s a self-portrait of me and my Jesus. I can’t explain it, I just do as I am told. It was all done in about 3 – 5 minutes. I decided to leave it as is, exactly the way the Lord gave it to me because He loves us so much, imperfections and all. I know this is hard for some of you to understand and I certainly do not intend to start any kind of debate. I just wanted to share with you all. John the Evangelist was the son of Zebedee and Salome, and brother of James (Saint James the Greater), another of the Twelve Apostles. Yochanan – as he most likely was called – was one of Christ’s original twelve apostles; the only one to live into old age; and not martyred for his faith, his traditional tomb is thought to be located at Selçuk, a small town in the vicinity of Ephesus. / He is believed to be the author of the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, and the Book of Revelation. (Well, the author of Revelation identifies himself as “John” several times, but the author of the Gospel of John never identifies himself directly. And Saint Mark’s name was also John. He was “John, who’s surname was Mark”.) Originally, he and his brother were fishermen and fished with their father in the Lake of Genesareth. According to the usual and entirely probable explanation they became, however, for a time disciples of John the Baptist, and were called by Christ from the circle of John’s followers, together with Peter and Andrew, to become His disciples. partly from Wikipedia
