  • (Right Click/Control Click the picture & open in new tab or window to go there.) This morning, I saw Boo for the first time, and, having owned and worked a farm for a great deal of my life, I was thrilled with the textures, the light, the “being there in the moment” this work evoked for me. It’s real. It’s true to life. It’s so GOOD. ...So I commented, and Anthony, bless him, popped me over a Bubblemail AND, with his persmission, I QUOTE: SAID ANTHONY HEDGER : The textures like the fence in the shot of Boo was pushed in Photoshop un-sharp mask. People often tell me I am cheating by using a photo editing software apart from telling them to F* off they are talking out of their arse (fanny in America) I also tell them my work isn’t finished until I say so and if I want to tweak it here or there then so be it. Then he asked my my opinion on the matter. Well here it is. There is this “purists” attitude among…NOT the art buying public, but among artists and photographers that disdains any use of digital enhancement techniques. This same attitude also abounds toward digital verses real world art media. What do I say? This photograph is “finished.” It’s ART. It’s WONDERFUL, and any purist who can’t see that is BLINDED by his and her own prejudice. Art does NOT require some adherence to a dictate of what an artist can or cannot do with whatever materials and techniques he or she decides to use and impliment in creating that piece of artwork. It’s the final output that IS the art, completely independent of HOW it was accomplished. That’s my take. DLKeur

When I wrote about the Pink Petunias, it was in a lighthearted manner. But deeper down, I will confess to my bias against- STANDARD WHITE ICEBERG ROSES / BOX HEDGES / PETUNIAS The reason is quite simply this: they are environmentally unsound. When I lived closer to the city, and on the country outskirts, I watched as acre after acre of formerly prime market garden land was turned into suburbs of deserts. Too many people followed the latest trend in gardening and planted those noted above. Row after row after row of houses had these. What diversity of life can these plants offer? Very very little. And without the diversity of life, we are lost. / The so-called gardens in these suburbs have very little in common with the suburbs of the 1950’s, which supplied families with an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables and flowers. And I might add, these homes (not houses) also had a rainwater tank, often raised up on a concrete form which provided a cool retreat in the summer. Who needed air-conditioning then? Now before you respond and tell me all about the wonders of the plants I have denigrated, just consider them as examples of the paucity of diversity when combined in the manner I have described. So really, it is not plants at fault at all, is it? Next time you decide to put in a plant, please consider what it offers to all who share this planet, and see what a difference a little thought can make.

As some of you might know, I have been attempting to teach people how to use their cameras, and, as usual, I get a little taken up in trying to teach people how to get creative too…. Thought some of you might like to see some of my students and their work. Please make them feel welcome, they are all very talented people. These are the ones who’ve made themselves known to me here at Redbubble, or at least the ones I can remember….we must keep in mind I’m a little old grey haired woman with memory problems :) Click on their avatars to be taken to their portfolios.

It’s ridiculous what they are doing more and MORE of now with Blue Ray over regular DVD… anyone else noticed almost always when they release them both at the same time, that Blue ray gets ALL the extras/bonus features and DVD gets NOTHING or next to nothing?... it’s bullshit. talk about pushing blu ray onto people just so they can see all these extras it would take mere minutes to put onto dvd as well… but NOOOOOOOOOOoooOOoooo IF you want to see the extras you HAVE to be a blu ray owner now, like that’s so fuckin cheap in todays economic downturn to have to buy a player and a HD tv to watch it on… plus I’ve watched blu ray in the shops and I don’t even like the overly sharp scratchy film grain looking picture anyway :S might as well count the pimples on their faces as the only advantage I see in it lol It’s just another big company plow to push blu ray onto people and to screw existing dvd owners… Not happy, but that’s my 2 cents on bullshit blu ray lol Jay.

Well, in my classes we sometimes have models, and sometimes not. For this class we all brought in some props, and all of us had a go at being the model. I went first, with borrowed sunnies and scarf, and a gorilla hand on my shoulder….. The props that were provided included three different coloured wigs, scarves, hats, masks, and of course, a gorilla suit….as you do! Steve wore the suit, Dylan wore a couple of wigs, and Tanya, Kerrie and Marilyn wore masks, sunnies, wigs etc….we had a ball! This shot was taken by Tanya, who tried hard, but I didn’t stay still enough for the low light situation, so we all learnt a lesson :) Thanks for this image, Tanya!
