Stunning animal this one, its colour comes off with each shed. One special animal..
I couldn’t resist this old slag ladle once used in past days of BHP Steel Works operation in the now defunct Newcastle plant. No doubt it saw its share of work and is preserved here at Richmond Vale Rail Museum as now part of the very important history of Newcastle’s industrial era. A relic of past days – now out to rest!

This unremarkable stone chimney is the site of the birthplace of BHP ( Broken Hill Proprietary ) in Broken Hill, a company which helped shape the Australian Mining and Industrial landscape. It was part of a hut built on the mining lease in 1885 to house the first manager of BHP, William Jamison, and was used as the works office where all mining business was conducted. In 1888 a handsome stone building was erected about 500 metres from this site, but no trace of it survives. BHP ceased operation in Broken Hill in 1939. In 2001 BHP became part of BHP Billiton, the worlds largest resources company.

I was out doing a night shoot around the Kwinana industrial area last night with a group of Perth photographers. Had a great night, despite the night getting off to a wet start. This is one of the Smoke Stacks at the BHP Nickel refinery plant that we our shoot was based around on the night. This is a close up shot using my new 35-350 L lens. EOS 500D.
