Lake Michigan lighthouse near Ludington, MI

Point Betsie lighthouse, Benzie County Michigan. The ice that was coating the branches was also coating me. I had to wait between sprays with my back to a wicked Northwest wind, fingers freezing, then turn and shoot between spray, eyes watering in the wind, praying I would get the shot. Canon 40D / EF-S 17-85mm @ 17mm / f/22, 2.5 sec exposure. I was a bit naughty and jumped the fence of a lookout to perch myself on the edge of a rather large cliff to capture this beautiful South Arm sunrise overlooking Betsy Island…if you view large, you can just make out the mini lighthouse on the island. There are some great surfing beaches either side of where I was situated.

My new Tiny Betsy McCall. She reminds me of a young Shirley Temple. I really need to start buying some miniature furniture and start creating dioramas or something, I think Tiny Betsy would be good for that. But I keep spending my money on more dollies instead.

The Betsy Ross Rose will probably be many years in development. Something about the star’s confusing the dna? But here is a debut. I am sure somewhere science will work out the kinks. What do you think? I am sure the first one will be planted in Encinitas, California / Watercolor. on Cold Press Paper. No Frisket, don’t like to use it. / Original is Sold and in a private gallery.

Point Betsie Light, located on the west coast of Michigan, is the second most photographed lighthouse in the United States. The lighthouse guards the southern entrance to the Manitou Passage and stands just south of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
