This is a really quick charcoal sketch I did a few years ago that I pulled out while digging through some old work. Maybe it’s not the single greatest thing I’ve ever done, but I do think that the concept is interesting. Maybe? Maybe not? I dunno. Some of the sloppiness can be forgiven though, since this was really more of a sketch than anything. No? Maybe? Please? Leave me alone…I’m tired.

I shot this image on the 26th November 2007, at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, in the Black Country. / However, all is not as it seems in this picture, the boxer on the canvas had not been rendered horizontal by a stealthy upper cut, but had lost the fight on pionts. He dropped to the floor in disbelief at the result, allowing me to get this image. / I’ve been following West Midland boxers and kickboxers for the last couple of years, shooting in the gyms and sports clubs, as they prepare for their bouts. I’ll be putting more shots up asap.

Photograph. / According to legend, when King Lalibela had almost completed the group of cave and carved-out-of-solid-rock churches, Saint George appeared reproached the king for not having constructed a house for him. Lalibela promised to build a church more beautiful than all the others for the saint. / Bet Giorgis can only be entered via a hidden tunnel carved in the stone. / From my 2008 Calendar

In October 2006, I went along to a Thai Kickboxing night at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, and came away with some really memorable shots. This one to me is almost Biblical, with everyones faces obscured, except for the Boxer, who is being prepared for the inevitable.
