i want to first give marianne a HUGE thanks and Hug for wanting this print and asking me to upload to buy it, im so honored and speechless at the same time. to have another photographer that you admire and adore, to want to buy Your work..wow the feeling cant be put into words. / so i have to ask the people that read this, exactly how do you handle selling your work when you know who the buyer is? / for me..each time my work sells to someone i know, i feel like i should say more then just ..thanks i still close up when i know the person buying my work, even here locally my chief with the fire dept and his wife, are starting up a collection of my work in their home. / i find myself…shy!! believe it or not! LOL / i have realized tho..i dont ever want to lose that humbleness (that a word? is now) of someone thinking my photography is good enough to hang in their home, or give as a gift, who knows..maybe they know im very humbled at the fact they want my work? so Marianne…Thank You so much!! for the faith you have always had in me, for supporting me, for helping me with my photography, by putting better equipment in my hands, for being one of the bestest people that has ever come into my life. you will always be an angel in my eyes…thank you this is what she bought

Hi Everyone, I’ve been on an off the computer due to a combination of things, and this is just to let you know why I haven’t posted much comment, that I haven’t vanished and still and always love you all with all my heart. There’s no match to the community of friends here. I’ll have more time this week; hate missing all the lovely work you’re doing and I’ll try to go back and catch up. One of the things I’ve been up to – which may be of interest to you all – is setting up some new pages on a site called Zazzle. www.zazzle.com/buccaneer is my page. What they’ve got is a thousand products you can put designs on, including some hats, mugs, mousepads, car cups, key chains, handbags, work aprons, children’s things, posters, post cards, personalized real stamps!, three hundred plus shirt designs, and the most fun of all….bumper stickers! Hooboy has that been fun. I have my portrait of Longfellow on one with the words: I BRAKE FOR POETS. Like RB it’s free, I’ve put the percentage of royalties way up…they’re cheaper…to see what happens. Easy to post stuff, no charge for anything, and as I’ve said the variety of products is interesting to play with. They’re not as classy as RB, this place is really the height of quality from what I’ve seen elsewhere. But they look good, and the shipping looks fast. Let me know what you think if you go for a look. Back soon for plunging in, and a new portrait coming up soon. Best wishes to one and all, / Barbara

A 500 carat diamond has been found in Lesotho!!! Taken from an article in the Scotsman this morning ….. ’’ IT IS a mere speck on the map, but deep beneath its inhospitable plateaux, nature has gifted Lesotho some of the grandest sparklers in the world. / The rich seam of the African enclave’s mines became clear yesterday, after the discovery of a huge gem experts believe could yield the largest polished round diamond in history. It weighs 478 carats and is the 20th largest rough diamond ever recovered. Such is its outstanding clarity and rounded shape, it has set tongues wagging in the upper echelons of the stone trade. Once polished, tentative speculation has it that the white diamond could reach a valuation well into eight figures. The diamond, which has not yet been named, is the fourth remarkable gem to be unearthed from the Letšeng mine in only two years. Lesotho, geographically surrounded by South Africa, is an impoverished nation, where shepherds take refuge in crude, thatched huts when they are not crossing mountains by horseback. However, it is also regarded as the most productive region in the world for precious stones. After initial examinations by gemologists in the Belgian city of Antwerp, it is estimated the rock has a completely flawless centre and might even yield a 150-carat polished gem stone. If so, it would dwarf the likes of the Koh-i-noor diamond, the centrepiece of the Crown Jewels. The grade-D stone – the highest quality – was unearthed a fortnight ago at Letšeng, in the landlocked country’s Maluti mountains. The glittering prize emerged from the hundreds of thousands of tons of kimberlite rock mined every day. Sculpting it into a marketable asset is an arduous task, involving several months’ work. It is not yet clear exactly what the stone will produce, but, typically, it will take three months to assess any cracks or faults and decide how best to maximise the yield before polishing begins. The danger of the stone shattering during cutting is ever present.’‘ And I don’t suppose it will benefit any of the ‘poor shepherds’ who will probably have to continue living in ‘Crude thatched huts’ and scraping a living from the surface of the land! ..... a bit of an imbalance here don’t you think?

But all will be ok. l got the results from my oncologist on Friday, l felt like l’ve had to wait forever & in a way l wish l had of. The results were not good at all in fact they were the worst l could’ve wished for. l do have a purpose for telling you & it really isn’t for sympathy, your warmth is more than enough to see me through but l need to show other women that what they feel & go through is normal & ok & that should they ever EVER need to speak to someone then l am ALWAYS here. Firstly thankyou with a thousand kisses for bubblemailing me asking how l am, l can’t tell you what that means to me XXXXXXX / l did make the mistake of going to the hospital on my own as hubby just had to work we really didn’t have much of a choice. / l think it really hit me today & as l was going through my phone No’s to see who l could call just to have a sob l found l just couldn’t bring myself to burden anyone so l ended up calling the cancer foundation & had a good cry with a nurse who was just beautiful & explained it is SO ok to feel the way l do. My oncologyst explained that l didn’t have 2 cancers but 3 very different ones (Trust me to be different) all cancers were stage 3 & aggressive l also had another 8 aggressive ones in my lympthnodes which tells them cancer seeds have spread throughout my body.At some stage they want to do a historectomy, my chemotherapy begins next Thursday & will be 18 treatments followed by 6 weeks radiation then hormone therapy. l booked my hairdressing appointment for wednesday to shave my head, l figured it would be more traumatic to wake up to clumps on my pillow & a little more frightening for my little boy. lt was explained that chemo would buy me 5 years possibly more but l’m never one to play by the rules or be the norm so you can bet l aint lay’en down to this, l promise you l promise my family & l promised me but l can tell you l’m scared & sometimes you just can’t stop the silly thoughts that pop in your head no matter how determined you are l’m just thankful they don’t last long. l am still so grateful for everything around me & will always be in love with life. / Well now that l got that out the way besides l’ve run out of bloody tissues l’m still gaining BIG momentum in my art show THIS Saturday l am so SO excited & can’t wait to take plenty of photos for you guys l have had the most wonderful feedback from my paintings on display at the community centre & if thats anything to go by it should be one of the greatest fun days of my life & l’ll be enjoying every second. l managed to raise $700 to purchase plenty more of my art work so all fingers crossed l’ll make sure no other woman in Broadford will go without support for cancer or depression. l must give a giant thankyou to Jo & Peter at redbubble for giving me a discount in support. Just wait till l hold out my hand for the politicians to slap a few bucks in it too :-P Well till then l guess l shall bid you goodnight with all my LOVE & thankyou’s for being so wonderful Flipyalateralligators XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX !

Isn’t it amazing? It seems it was 1970 j…

Isn’t it amazing? It seems it was 1970 just three days ago…... / The 70’s was a monumental time for me personally, graduating from high school, venturing off to explore the world, marrying my first husband, experiencing the miracle of the birth of my first child, surviving an almost fatal car accident and almost simultaneously suffering the sudden death of my beloved Father, which left a vacant gaping wound in my heart that took years to heal…...... as well as experiencing devastating emotional and physical abuse and a heartbreaking divorce…. The 70’s was a time of innocence, and a loss of innocence. .. yet, I learned so much and I have no regrets. I became independent, reevaluated my belief system, shed my childhood conditioning, totally redefining my life as I discovered my own personal and spiritual values defining who I am, what I stand for and what I believe. I returned to my childlike innocence. I embrace my rich and dynamic cultural heritage, opened my eyes and my heart and embraced other cultures and languages as well. I am grateful for every experience, for every lesson I have learned from every person I have met and I am grateful for every good thing that has happened in my life. Fast forward to the 80’s with several moves on the mainland from the east coast to the west and all points in between, with several transcontinental moves, enjoying several years living in Europe, exploring other countries and mastering foreign languages. The 80’s was a time of enlightenment, a time for spiritual ascension and moments of profound revelations, a new marriage, delighting in the births of two more beautiful children. And the music of the 80’s was awesome. I especially loved U2. The 80’s was prime time for me. I wish I looked now like I looked in the 80’s with long thick auburn hair and flawless ivory skin. :)))) It was a decade of working and playing and personal growth and realizing that I could create my own reality as I followed my dreams. The 90’s were certainly interesting. Another divorce. I devoted most of those years as well to nurturing my young children and refining my career. Imagine my surprise and dismay when my Irish heritage manifested itself as my rich auburn hair transformed virtually overnight to a platinum blonde. It is still a surprise each time I look into the mirror. It was a time of tremendous sacrifice as well and often times I worked three jobs as I explored many interests and tried so hard to maintain a good balance in my life. Such as Time flies and the last decade certainly seems to have breezed by as if in a dream. From the year 2000 to 2009 so much has happened I could publish a book and it would probably be a best seller for the places I have been, the people I have met and the things that have happened are so fascinating. I am so amazed that it is now the year 2010. So much has happened this last year. I was single and independent almost 19 years when I met Jacob. And now this year Jacob and I celebrated our first year of marriage. I have met hundreds of members of our family on his side here on Maui. Most everyone on Maui is related to us. If they are Hawaiian, they are probably our ohana. :)) We have made many new friends and lost a couple of frenemies :)) You know who they are, the ones who pretend to be your friends, but they are really your enemy and when you have a disagreement they only do their best to slander you and bring you down as they project and impose their own personal opinion, belief or value system on you without regard for your truth or your heart. The true friends who remain have my best interests at heart, as I do theirs, and they help to protect my heart. I am grateful for my true friends. We have experienced some tragic very sad events as well. It certainly hasn’t been all fun in the sun. We have also buried many of my husbands family and life long friends in 2009. Through it all we face each day our own mortality. Every day we realise, we remember and acknowlege that each day is a gift. / We focus on the good things in life. Yet, most of all we have had tremendous fun and enjoyed many wonderful, some truly extraordinary experiences here on the island. For me personally it has been educational in so many ways. No one can really know the Hawaiian culture unless you are submerged in it. You may come here on holiday and explore the island, shop the beautiful galleries and gift shoppes, see the sights and explore the ocean, the seacliffs, the cloud forests, the rain forests and the many beautiful beaches, yet to truly know Hawai’i and understand this magnificent culture, you must live here. I try to share this beauty with all of you through my imagery. I am so happy to hear from you when you leave a note and let me know my work and the splendid poetry I search for and attach to my images to breathe life into them speaks to your heart. / / On another happy note, in a couple of weeks my son and his wife will be welcoming the birth of their first child, a precious baby girl. She will be my fifth grandchild and Jacob’s tenth. Imagine that, between us we have 15 grandchildren. Wow. My son is my youngest child and I cannot explain how I feel knowing he will soon be holding his own child in his arms. If I could wave my magic wand she would be born here on the island. How I wish we could, it would be so wonderful as I have not seen my children in three years and I would love for this child to be born on Maui. I have three beautiful talented children. My oldest daughter (the one I grew up with) is married with 4 beautiful children. My second daughter is still single (thank God) and attending university studying to be a graphic designer. And my son is having a child. I miss them all so much and I love them more than my own life. Jacob has 7 beautiful children, and we are truly blessed, for our children are our legacy and they are our greatest gifts in life. To all our family and friends, we wish you love and sweet compassion. We wish you tremendous success and every happiness. May you all enjoy a fabulous new year!!! / / Aloha oukou / E pili mau na pomaika`i ia `oe / `Okole maluna Jacob and Sharon Mau /
