107 kilometres long 4 metres high 192 intersected streets 5,075 escapes 200 fatal attempts 1 wall 1 city 2 worlds
first i thought about getting a hotel room for that shooting, but the only one i liked was in the hilton, and unfortunaly they wanted 400€ for for a night, and there was no way like renting it for an hour or two (and the be honest, with 400 bucks i will buy a new lens, or a decent scanner, or a light meter, or other creepy stuff ^^) / So i decided to go over and ask my neigbouhr I i could use her rooms for a small shooting :) / And it worked, it was the first shooting with my new medium format camera.. damm! i messed it up pretty much, but the model is a good friend of mine so we have a laugh about the mess (and some digital pictures as compensation) Thursday the colour negativ film will be developed, and this evening i will develop the black&white film on my own (and hope i will get acess to a scanner this week). But back to this photograph ;) And for anyone who is thinking about buying it 60% of the money will go straight to lilli, the model.

Picture of a moving underground train in Berlin, called U-Bahn… The Berlin U-Bahn is a rapid transit railway in Berlin, Germany, and is a major part of the public transport system of the capital. Opened in 1902, the U-Bahn serves 170 stations spread across nine lines, with a total track length of 151.7 kilometres (94.3 mi), about 80% of which is underground. Trains run every four to five minutes during peak hours, every five minutes for the rest of the day and every ten minutes in the evening and on sunday. They travel 132 million km (83 million mi), carrying 400 million passengers, over the year. The entire system is maintained and operated by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, commonly known as the BVG. Designed to alleviate traffic flowing into and out of central Berlin, the U-Bahn rapidly expanded until the city was divided into East and West Berlin at the end of World War II. Although the system initially remained open to residents of both sides, the construction of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent restrictions imposed by the East German government limited travel across the border: The East Berlin U-Bahn lines were severed from West Berlin; while two West Berlin lines that ran through East Berlin were allowed to pass through without stopping, although the stations were closed, with the exception of Friedrichstraße, used as a transfer point and a border crossing into East Berlin. The system was reopened completely following the fall of the Berlin Wall, and German reunification. As of 2007, the Berlin U-Bahn is the most extensive underground network in Germany. True to its original goal, it has been calculated that, in 2006, use of the U-Bahn amounted to the equivalent of 122.2 million km (76 million mi) of car journeys. Now thoroughly modernised after years of neglect during the Cold War, it serves as the main transportation method of the capital.

Berlin is “The biggest construction site in the world”... International investors and real estate sharks scent in Berlin big business. The opportunity is unique: Never before has an entire capitol been sold and built again. The prices are rising and rising – but the one billion projects are not making progress. The first speculation is out of money. A wave of bankruptcies threatens… This was a quote from “Spiegel” in 1992… Did something change since then?... Berlin is still a big construction site and we still live in a period of transition... We’ve just became accustomed to it… This photo was taken 2009 in Berlin Mitte, at the bridge near the Museumsinsel (Museum Island)...
We travel / over a mirror / without silver, / over a crystal / without cloud. / If the lilies were to grow / upside down, / if the roses were to grow / upside down, / if all the roots / were to face the stars / and the dead not shut / their eyes, / we would be like swans. (Garcia Lorca) /
this is really importan picture, made with the remnants of the berlin wall, at that place, where the first crack was done. I was born in east berlin, my parents were east. The wall fell when I was 3 years old, but my parents were still east. I grew up in east berlin, had eastern teachers and friends. For me, berlin and germany, was always one. but for them, it was always seperated. They tried to teach me that, but I didn’t listen. It was just annoying to me. I try to make all of mine frustration on that topic, and some critism, that this wall still exist in some heads 20 years after it fell, into a picture. during the time I made this picture, I was in love with a girl from westberlin – who rejected me. That’s probably one topic of this picture is love. / Those two people on the picture, my friends, were in love with each other at that time. Allthough they never got together. They never could confess their feelings. It’s just like there’s been this invisible wall beetween them. This was the first time, I could make one of my visions, my frustration, my feelings and other feelings into one picture. After that, I took photography more seriously. But at that shooting, I was just happy. I was finally able to say something, I always wanted to say.
At night, by the fire, / The colors of the bushes / And of the fallen leaves, / Repeating themselves, / Turned in the room, / Like the leaves themselves / Turning in the wind. / Yes: but the color of the heavy hemlocks / Came striding. / And I remembered the cry of the peacocks. (Wallace Stevens)
