This was one of those freak photos, straight off my camera, the only thing i changed was the white balance and the original was in color!!!... i walked straight past this spot on the walking track and my friend pulled me up!!! Spider webs were every where, there was late afternoon fog that had nt lifted, sun was perfect, dead trees, it was all there!! 30 mins later when we walked past, the sun was too low and the fog had lifted and the web could hardly be seen!!! freaky…......right place…......right time…....hahahaha…

This shot took me somewhat by surprise. I had just spent two days hiking in Mt Buffalo National Park in Victoria, Australia with half of it off track. The previous day I had woken on Mt McLeod and hiked straight down over the granite slabs to Rollasons Falls near the base of the mountain. To give you an idea of how hard it was, it took me 7 hours to hike 3km, quite treacherous in spots too, but magnificent country and vistas. That morning I had re-ascended the mountain via ‘The Big Walk’ to my car then went back to the Chalet to say good bye to The Gorge. Having been to Bents Lookout numerous times before I saw no point in taking my camera which until this point had been my constant companion. Of course as soon as I got there this amazing rainbow appeared sending me scrambling back to the car for my camera, fortunately it was still there when I got back and this image was the result which ended up being my favorite for the trip. An interesting shape, this tree looks to have been strugling against the wind for most of it’s life. / . / / . / / . / / . /

Call them historians or reenactors, these people really add to the enjoyment when visiting historic places. Taken at Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site near La Junta, Colorado. I deliberately back lit this fellow to give the picture a vintage and ethereal look. William and Charles Bent, along with Ceran St. Vrain, built the original fort on this site in 1833 to trade with plains Indians and trappers. The adobe fort quickly became the center of the Bent, St.Vrain Company’s expanding trade empire that included Fort St.Vrain to the north and Fort Adobe to the south, along with company stores in Mexico at Taos and Santa Fe. The primary trade was with the Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians for buffalo robes. Canon Rebel XS / f14 ISO 320 Tv 1/30th sec
Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site is a reconstructed 1840’s adobe fur trading post. It is located along the Santa Fe Trail. Trappers, travelers, and Plains Indian tribes came here to trade. Today, living historians recreate the past. The fort is a wonderful place for families to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the 1840’s. There are no “Do Not Touch” signs, so small children can experience the past without being reprimanded. My grandson was entranced by a canon, and had a wonderful time touching and exploring every inch of it. Bent’s Old Fort is located on the Colorado plains near La Junta. An Historian at Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site. Something about this fellow really fit the part of an 1800’s trapper/trader. Canon Rebel XS f8 ISO 200
Not sure what this ornate piece of metal work will have been from, most likely part of the railing that would have ran along the front of the pulpit and altar area here. Whatever it was, its seriously bend and buckled now.
Don’t you hate it when you drop something and you just can’t pick it up. ;) hehehe
