  • ...are they one and the same?

  • Please check out Kye Vincent

  • Why that title you ask? Well to me this looks like an album cover where the singer is right up close and the rest of the band are in the background just doing whatever. What? You don’t see that?

  • Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo / 25 January 2009 The Sacred Heart Cathedral is one of the largest churches in Australia. It is the principal Catholic church in the city of Bendigo and the Diocese of Sandhurst. It occupies a commanding position on a slope beside the main road leading into Bendigo from Melbourne. The Cathedral was built in two stages. The first, comprising the nave and side aisles, was opened in September 1901. There was then a long interval until 1954 when work recommenced. The second stage was finally completed in 1977. Image taken with my 2MP Motorazr V9 mobile phone camera. • The Sacred Heart Cathedral, located in Bendigo in central Victoria Australia, built during the depression of the 1890’s by out-of-work miners, is, architecturally, English Gothic. The marvel of gothic architecture is that it provided great height and lots of light, without heavy, thick walls. Flying buttresses were devised to overcome the problem of holding up such high walls without their falling outward due to the weight of the roof. These are, in fact, the arches in the side aisles. But in classical European Gothic the buttresses are outside the walls of the building (as in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris), in English Gothic the buttresses are roofed in, thus giving a much wider building inside. Traditionally Christian churches, if possible, are built on an East-West orientation. The rising sun is seen as a symbol or reminder of the Risen Christ. Just as the rising sun overcomes the darkness of night, so the risen Christ overcomes the darkness of sin and death. Therefore the main doors of such buildings are often referred to as the Great West Door. / /

  • Driving through Bendigo, this is almost impossible to miss, the main centre spire is 87 metres high, and the building is 75 metres long! It is the second tallest cathedral in Australia, after the St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne. The nave was completed in 1901, and the building was finally completed in 1977. Definately one of the most stunning and awe inspiring piece of architecture I have ever seen. After several hours of pleasurable photography, I finalized 2 shots, this one, and a night shot, which will come soon. I hope you enjoy! Canon 50D, 10mm, 5:34pm Bendigo, Victoria.
