  • THIS IS LONDON CALLING – you can vote for it here, if you like. After thinking over the theme of this competition for some time, it became obvious that a horse with head like BigBen, and speakers instead of clockfaces spewing out cultural icons was the only answer. I’ll keep adding icons right till the last moment. All suggestions welcome. Technical notes : All images are public domain AND this tee has only three colours (including black). I’ve chosen white as the tshirt base because that’s what RB’s printers do colour on bestest.

  • Time trails
    by Wickerman

    US$5.70–US$152.00

I was intending to capture the light trails from the double decker bus all the way through the image – but my timing was a little off – I perhaps should have gone for a small aperture/longer shutter speed. Still, I like the effect of it ending in the middle of nowhere – it gives me the impression of “Back to the Future” – but in a double decker!

  • London Dusk
    by drjones

    US$3.42–US$91.20

A stroll into London with my best mate to clear our heads from uni work! One of the shots I captured on our little adventure. There’s a bit of contrast, saturation etc work done to it. There’s some changes i want to make but it’ll do for now :) Taken with a basic Kodak digital camera. I used some selective colour for this one…adjusted the contrast in certain areas (such as on the pavement so as to make the illumination of the lights stand out more).

  • Westminster Clock Tower
    by Craig Goldsmith

    US$3.99–US$106.40

It is almost universally called “Big Ben” — which is actually the main bell housed within the Clock Tower. It is however a instantly recognisable London icon. I had a “Big Ben” shot in mind months before I finally got the UK, and well I found it harder then I expected to get one that I was happy with. Setting up my tripod dangerously close to oncoming traffic and then having to time my long exposure so get a bus driving through the middle was challenging, as I was trying to rear curtain flash the bus as it was leaving the frame. In the end the ones with the flash didn’t appeal to me as much as this one, which I took while trying to get the timing right for my more elaborate idea.

  • This is a photo I took from the London Eye. The original came out abit grainy etc with being behind glass, but ever since I took it, there has always been something drawing me back to this photo, and it has become one of my favourites! I always thought it had a painting like quality to it, and now with the help of a couple of filters, it has really been brought out!

The 316 foot high Clock Tower is the world’s largest four-faced, chiming clock. The structure completed between 1858-59 is situated at the north-eastern end of the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London. It is often colloquially referred to as Big Ben, which is actually the nickname of the main bell housed within the tower (formally known as the Great Bell). The bell weighing over 13 tons, was cast in 1858 at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry in East London. To this day one of the largest bells they have ever cast. The Whitechapel Bell Foundry also cast the Liberty Bell, along with hand bells, tower bells, clock bells, carillons, and turret bells for all over the world. Big Ben is named, probably, after Sir Benjamin Hall, the First Commissioner of Works. The Clock Tower has also been referred to as The Tower of Big Ben and, incorrectly, St Stephen’s Tower, which is actually the spired tower towards the middle of the Palace and is also the main point of entry for attendees of debates and committees. Each clock face is over 7m in diameter. When the Houses of Parliament sits by night a light in the Clock Tower burns above Big Ben. Old pennies act as counterweights to ensure Big Ben keeps time to the nearest second. BEST VIEWED LARGER Related shots can be found at: London and England.

  • Houses of Parliament

One of my favourite views in London: The Houses of Parliament viewed from the southbank at night. Should you want to buy this picture, please be advised that it’s very grainy (natural film grain – Ilford HP5 Plus ISO 400 – love that film!)
