“I am the half sister of the Great king Arthur Pendragon. History claims I am a witch. In truth…I have the blood of the faerie running thick in my veins. I am not an evil witch, but a priestess of the Goddess. Merlin took Arthur right after he was born, to have him raised somewhere else. We did not grow up together he and I. I was brought to Avalon at a rather young age to become a priestess. After Arthur was acknowledged as the successor to the throne, he had to pass a test. As a maiden-priestess I was chosen to sleep with the Stag King (which was Arthur that night). During this night our son Mordred was conceived. This was the begining of the end of the Knights of the Round Table and the downfall of Arthur’s Kindom.” Lady Morgaine
based on Madron Holy Well in South Cornwall. The tradition of hanging offerings of flowers and rags and ribbons is still in practice today amongst Pagans in the UK. This image was inspired by the beauty and fertility of may when the bluebells and Horse Chestnut is in bloom and mayday (Beltane) is the traditional time for well dressings and leaving offerings to the water spirits and fairies.
Beltane Beltane (April 30th-may 1st) is one of the four major Celtic festivals of the year and marks the beginning of Summer. The Goddess is decked in green and her wells and springs are believed to be at their most fertile and magical. (The Malvina Well used in this image was sculpted by Rose Garrard and can be found in the centre of Great Malvern,Worcestershire.)
This image is for all those who walk a simerla path to myself, i have been planning to draw a collection of images based on the yearly sabbats and this is the first one i have so far compleated. And all Redbubble’rs will be the first to see it haveing only compleated it last night. / Like most of my work there is a heavy celtic theam in this image but i have tryed to add as much symbolism as i could just to add to the power of the image, the figures are based with in a pentagram surronded by spirals of the waxing and waining moon, and then there is the cressent moon and the blazing sun, there is more but i dont want to give it all away and its fun to see if others can pick up on what is hidden in all my work.
From the fine art photography of wendy bandurski-miller Some of us in the Northern Hemisphere celebrate Beltane…... My thoughts are that connecting to the rhythms that are part of the wider cycle are both important and fundamental to our humanity and our growth as aware beings.

I woke up one morning and came out into the kitchen just after I had finished this work and the rainbow was spot on the stone of destiny! It was goosepimple stuff, I tell you! The spirits walked my house that morning! These big powerful mandalas are connections… connections with spirit, connections with others, connections with myself. This digital art depicts a scene, set some 2500 years ago at a Stone circle somewhere in Scotland. The time is Beltane, the start of the new growing season. Two village elders are performing an age old ceremony over the Beltane fire. Once the morning has broken and the fire has died down, the entire community will gather there to celebrate the new season. This picture was inspired by and features my model of a stone circle. At the end of my Street…............ / Calton Hill is the venue for a number of events throughout the year. The largest of these is the Beltane Fire Festival held on April 30 each year, attended by over 12,000 people. / I have attended this festival a few times but on this occasion I had creat\ed some artwork for the Beltane and dropped it off at the Hill ,a friend of mine who was partaking in the festival asked me to HOLD THIS…and the next thing I was being whisked around Calton Hill carrying a Huge Banner of the Carrion Crow…..and I could not let go or stop…..but I must say it was exhilarating …...and to drink homegrown Elderberry wine form all the gods and Goddesses that night and Day was Stupendous…..............x / Some have called Edinburgh the Athens of the North and Auld G reekie for its intellectual history, with the Old Town of Edinburgh performing a similar role to the Athenian Acropolis. Edinburgh is also known by several Latin names; Aneda or Edinensis, the latter can be seen inscribed on many educational buildings. / Calton Hill is a hill in central Edinburgh, Scotland, just to the east of the New Town. Views of, and from, the hill are often used in photographs and paintings of the city. / Calton Hill is the headquarters of the Scottish Government, which is based at St Andrew’s House, on the steep southern slope of the hill; with the Scottish Parliament Building, and other key buildings, for example Holyrood Palace, lying near the foot of the hill. The hill also includes several iconic monuments and buildings: the National Monument, Nelson’s Monument, the Dugald Stewart Monument, the New Parliament House (the Royal High School) and the City Observatory…......................Its nearly that time of Year again…....Yayyyyyyyy…...x /

I have just celebrated Beltane, the Celtic festival marking the beginning of Summer on May eve/ Mayday. The town near where I live has a huge Folk festival every Mayday Weekend and I have been down enjoying the dancers and the music and taking photographs of the participents. / I was inspired to do this artwork by the fabulous ‘Beltane Borders morris’ side who are based in Devon, England. Their dances and look are very Pagan and I was delighted to see them perform one of their energetic dances to Loreena McKennitt’s Huron : Beltane Fire Dance , a song which was itself inspired by English mayday parades and celebrations: Beltane Border Morris website: http://www.beltaneborder.co.uk/ “When in the springtime of the year / When the trees are crowned with leaves / When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew / Are dressed in ribbons fair When owls call the breathless moon / In the blue veil of the night / The shadows of the trees appear / Amidst the lantern light We’ve been rambling all the night / And some time of this day / Now returning back again / we bring a garland gay Who will go down to those shady groves / And summon the shadows there / And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms / In the springtime of the year The songs of birds seem to fill the wood / That when the fiddler plays / All their voices can be heard / Long past their woodland days And so they linked their hands and danced / Round in circles and in rows / And so the journey of the night descends / When all the shades are gone “A garland gay we bring you here / And at your door we stand / It is a sprout well budded out / The work of Our Lord’s hand” The Mummer’s Dance by Loreena McKennitt
Townsfolk turned out in their thousands the 200 riders cross the river tweed on their annual rideout to mark the towns boundaries and to ford the river tweed during the annual week-long Beltane festivities in the town. A thrilling sight however many times you see it… Luckily the river was low and the crossing uneventful… tho divers waited nearby just in case / Nikon D60, Nikkor 18-200 VR lens, UV filter / f 5.6 / 1/125 sec / ISO-800 / exp bias -0.7 / 170mm Really pleased with how this came out as it was a first time really getting my head round the ISO settings… taken at 9pm – no flash…didnt want to scare the horses…LOL…
The two town bands (pipe and silver versions) play an essential part in Peebles’ midsummer beltane celebrations and the closing ceremony sees them marching and playing a musical duel allong the length of the high street to thrilled town supporters… Here the silver band is at the foot of the church steps ready to play their part in the crowing ceremony and in the following parade of all the primary school kids in their fancy dress… if you peek closely you may spot the penguins, a beefeater and more… / :)) Peebles is a lovely town on the river Tweed in the scottish borders about 25 miles south of Edinburgh Click for more beltane info and for more images Nikon D60, Nikkor VR 18-200 lens
The leading party are safely across the river tweed in their rideout this year.. apologies if you’ve had enough! – after posting the last think i like this one a bit better…and the lighting was somehing special to see.. Fording of the river tweed by one of several hundred riders during the annual midsummer “Beltane”: festivities in the scottish borders here in Peebles..
